You can park your car in the car park on the D18, opposite the square, at the junction with the D701.
(S/E) Take the street on the left (Le Défends) and leave it after about 50 metres to take the path that climbs up the mountainside in front of you. This stony path climbs steadily for about a kilometre. You will reach a Y-shaped intersection.
(1) Take the marked path on the left. After another kilometre, you will come to a large clearing. The path goes around it on the left to take you to the ruins of Jas d'Estelle, built of beautiful limestone.
(2) Leave the marked trail that descends to the left and take the path that passes behind the Jas. After about 500 metres, you will come out onto a large field. The path runs alongside it with a forest of small oak trees on the right. You will come out onto a wide stone path. Take it to the left. After 150 metres, you will come to a small tarmac road. Take it to the right for about 100 metres.
(3) Leave the road and take the marked path on the right. After 50 metres, leave this path and walk along the lavender fields. After 150 metres, you will see a pretty dry stone hut on your right. Continue straight ahead through the forest until you reach a new T-junction.
(4) Turn left, walk along a field, then enter the forest before descending on the left, quite steeply, to a tarmac road. Turn right and continue to the next junction with theGR®4marked in white and red.
(5) Continue to the right and then head to the bottom of the valley. Take the right-hand bend.
(6) At the end of the bend, turn left onto the path supporting theGR®4and climb up the mountainside, alternating between groves of small oak trees and clearings. At the top, you will pass over limestone slabs and walk along a beautiful dry stone wall. You will then come out onto a stony path leading to a private property.
(7) Continue straight ahead. The path becomes tarmac. You will gradually pass beautiful stone houses and three mills, then, on the left-hand side of the road, you will come across the Notre-Dame de Pitié Chapel and the impressive Rotonde, the castle of Simiane.
(8) On the right-hand side, the village gate invites you to enter. Take the opportunity to lose yourself in this maze of narrow streets and end up in front of the church. On the church square, take Rue du Rempart, which descends to the right of the car park. Take a sharp right turn to descend along Chemin des Crottes, which will take you back to the car park opposite the Simiane-la-Rotonde post office (S/E).
