Loop from Col de la Pierre Saint-Martin to Pic d'Anie

This loop offers changing landscapes, starting with pastures and gradually becoming rockier as you approach Pic d'Anie. Crossing the passes and cols will give you the opportunity to discover valleys that are very different from one another. Pic d'Anie is the highest mountain in the area and offers views of the French and Spanish Pyrenees.

Description of the walk

The hike starts at the Col de la Pierre Saint-Martin, where there are plenty of parking spaces available.

(S/E) Take the path that leaves the road and climbs gently through pastures. Cross the French-Spanish border and continue on the Spanish side to the Col de Pescamou.

(1) Continue your ascent on the right: on this section, you will have the opportunity to see some marmots. Reach the Col de Boticotch and its border cross.

(2) Continue along the ridge, then leave it on the left, following the path. Pass about a hundred metres east of a new border cross and reach a fork.

(3) Take the path on the left at a 90° angle. From here, pay attention to the cairns and the markings indicated by simple red paint marks. The path also becomes rockier.

(4) Turn off towards Pic d'Anie: be careful, the intersection is not very visible in this direction. You will reach a fork at the foot of Pic d'Anie.

(5) Head right and make the ascent by going around the peak to the north. This will give you the opportunity to admire the many vultures that inhabit the area. Reach the summit of Pic d'Anie (2,504 metres).

(6) Take the time to admire the landscape, you've earned it. Once you've finished your break, descend via the same route.

(5) Leave the path you took on the way up and descend straight down to the Cap de la Baitch hut. Be careful, as this section of the path is difficult to follow until you reach Lac d'Anie: pay attention to the markings and cairns. At the hut, there is a fountain where you can drink and fill up your water bottles.

(7) Continue north to climb up to Pas d'Azuns: the red and white markings of the GR®10 are very easy to follow.

(8) Admire the changing landscape at Pas d'Azun, and continue your descent.

(9) Keep left at the intersection and continue to Pas de l'Osque.

(10) Once you have passed this point, begin a long crossing of the valley, alternating between pine trees, ski slopes and pastures. The GR® markings are clearly visible. Cross a ski slope and continue straight ahead for a good hundred metres.

(11) Turn left onto the path, following the GR® markings.

(12) Leave this path and turn left to reach the Cabanes de Pescamou.

(13) This is your chance to leave the ski area behind and climb one last time towards the Col de Pescamou, which you passed on the way up.

(1) Cross over to the Spanish side and retrace your steps to return to the Col de la Pierre Saint-Martin car park (S/E).

Notes

The hike does not present any particular technical difficulties except for certain vertical passages and sections where the markings are a little spaced out: you will need to rely on cairns or GPS to avoid getting lost.
The hike is quite long and involves several climbs to pass the passes. Allow 7 hours for experienced hikers.

Water is available at the Cabane du Cap de la Baitch (8).
