Circular route from Montagny-les-Lanches

A very beautiful walk through fields and woods, around the village of Montagny-les-Lanches, with very little walking on roads, but offering stunning views of the Semnoz to the east and the Monts de l’Albanais to the east. Very pleasant in spring and autumn, but make sure you bring plenty of water in summer. As you pass through the hamlets, you’ll see beautifully renovated farms, adorned with flowers and well-maintained.

Description of the walk

Park in the municipal car park next to the Auberge Mlle MEU car park.

(S/E) Head along the Route d’Annecy for 70–80 m and, at the bend, take the Route des Godes on the right until you reach the Impasse du Poirier.

Signposting (PR® Green and Yellow)

(1) Leave the road, turn right onto a path and pass under a power line.

(2) Cross the Ruisseau de la Chavanne and head up towards the hamlet of Les Blanchets.

(3) Turn right following the signposting and climb up to Montmasson, crossing a road.

No signposting

(4) Cross the hamlet and, on the way out, follow the Route de Montmasson to the left until you reach a path on the right.

(5) Take the Chemin des Lanches and head due north up to the edge of the woods. Continue straight on to the water reservoir (elevation 729 m). Turn right onto the track for about 120 m and arrive at another cross-track.

(6) Turn left along the edge of the woods and enter them until you reach the field beneath the high-voltage power line. There is only one crossing point to cross the field. Observe agricultural and forestry regulations. You will arrive at the viewpoint overlooking the Albanais region and Montrottier Castle.

Signposting (PR® Green and Yellow)

(7) Take the unmarked Green path and follow it to the hamlet known as Le Château.

(8) Two options:
- either finish the walk by heading down to the centre of Montagny to the car park where you started (S/E).
- or continue by turning left onto the path next to the campsite: Le Pré Ombragé. Follow the signposts which will guide you through woods and fields to Route de Montagny.

(9) Follow it to the left for about 200 m.

(10) Turn right to reach the wooden steps. Follow the path, observing the agricultural and forestry notices posted, to reach Route de Crévion (elevation 541).

(11) Cross it and continue along the path opposite, which leads to Impasse des Côtes.

(12) Follow it straight on, passing the school and the church, go round the town hall on the right and arrive at the Montagny municipal car park (S/E).

A lovely little walk for a day out; the only downside was that the ground had been badly damaged and churned up by machinery
around point 7: no more benches for a picnic break and lots of mud before finding a more
pleasant path!!
