Medieval walk in Alby-sur-Chéran

There are numerous car parks on either side of the village. We chose a small car park on Rue de la Combe, below the main road from Aix-les-Bains to Annecy (D1201), to do a circular route.

(S/E) Go under the road from Aix to Annecy and follow Rue de Plaimpalais on the left. Cross the bridge over the Chéran, turn right at the intersection, then right again at the next intersection, towards the medieval village. At the market hall (fountain-wash house), take the small path on the right of the road (dam information sign). It is possible to go down to the site of the old dam.

(1) Retrace your steps and, at the top, follow the path on the right. Return to the road, keep right on Rue Étroite to cross the Chéran again, continue straight ahead to reach the village square (Musée de la Cordonnerie).

(2) Continue to the right, passing in front of the modern church, and further on, an exhibition of urbex photos on the left side of the street (perhaps only temporary). Turn left and take the bridge under the road from Aix to Annecy to return to the car park (S/E).

Very easy, no equipment required.
