Description of the walk

Start from the car park near the cemetery in Saint-André-la-Côte.

(S/E) Head towards Saint-Martin-en-Haut via Rue de la Mairie. At the junction with Rue de l'Orme, continue straight ahead. At the next fork, turn right onto Rue de la Croix de Sainte-Agathe. At the cross, continue straight ahead for 600 metres.

(1) At the crossroads, turn left. After 200 metres (stele), continue for about 50 metres on the D113 road, then take the small path that climbs to the right (follow the red and white markings ofthe GR®7). You will soon reach the Signal de Saint-André.

(2) Climb onto the platform towards the cross to admire the view. The second platform offers less of a view. Continue along theGR®7through the forest until you reach the hamlet of Les Flaches.
Turn left towards a place called Le Sapin. After 50 metres, at a fork, turn left again and continue to the D113.

(3) Continue straight ahead on a path, first north then west. At the cross, turn right, join a small road and follow it to the right. At the crossroads (cross, elevation 808), continue straight ahead and ignore the turn-offs on the left. At the third turn-off (which leads to La Charmance), continue for 10 metres, leave theGR®7which turns right, and follow the road for 50 metres.

(4) At the crossroads, turn left onto the road to the campsite and head west to the D122. Cross this road. At the next crossroads, turn left (south-west) without turning into the first road on the left (south). Take the first path on the right towards Les Carelles. At a crossroads just before this hamlet, continue straight ahead and head for La Chapusière.

(5). Continue straight on through the Bois d'Arnais towards Côte Vieille near Roche Matiole.

(6) At the junction towards Moulin Vaudray, turn left towards Quéser. After 50 metres, turn left onto the path that climbs through the forest towards Roche Matiole (rock pile).

(7) Continue along the forest path and, at the junction with the road, continue straight ahead for 600 metres to Maintigneux.

(8) Continue straight ahead, heading east, until you reach a T-junction.

(9) Turn right. After about 100 metres, take the dirt track on the left (south-east). At the Red Cross, continue straight ahead (south).

(10) Cross the hamlet of Maperoux via a path and continue south-east. At the cross, turn left.
At the crossroads, turn right and follow the D122. At the next crossroads, turn left onto the Chavagneux road and, after 50 metres, turn right onto the path that descends to the Rieu stream. Cross the bridge over the stream and follow the yellow markings. Cross the forest to reach a group of buildings.

(11) Cross this group of buildings and continue right along the path through the woods, following the yellow markings to reach a road and follow it to the right. At the crossroads, go straight ahead to continue eastwards and reach Chavagneux.

(12) Then head towards Soleymieux along the road. After 200m, turn left onto a dirt track and continue south-east to reach the hamlet and the tarmac road.

(13) At the hairpin bend, turn right towards Chiparie. As you approach the first houses, join the road at the bottom left (the dirt track is blocked). Then take the La Bordelière road on the right and pass in front of a transformer. At the cross, leave the road and turn left onto the dirt track. Join a road, cross the Vergnassière stream and walk along a pond.

(14) After the cross, leave the road and continue straight on towards Pins du Monsu and La Paponnière. After 500 metres, you will reach a crossroads.

(15) Ignore the road and turn right towards Montaland. Before you get there, go through a hairpin bend and continue for 50 metres.

(16) Turn left onto Chemin des Grandes Flaches, which overlooks the village of Sainte-Catherine, and pass close to the Grotte de la Madone. At this point, rejoin theGR®7(red and white markings) and theGRP® Tour des Monts du Lyonnais and continue east-north-east.
Reach the Riverie road and cross it. Continue along the path opposite until you reach Brûle Fer (spelled Bréle Fer on the 1:25,000 map).

(17) Follow the road to the right. At the next junction, take the D113 road to the left and, after a hundred metres, you will reach another crossroads.

(18) Take the path on the left. Head north, staying on the main path (GR® markings) and ignore any paths branching off to the sides.

(19) At a fork, turn right and continue north-northeast. Join the D113 road and follow it to the left to return to the starting point (S/E).

A beautiful hike, partly in the rain 🌧️. There was a lot of fog, so unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the views.
To be repeated in clear weather. Completed in 3 hours and 40 minutes.

Thanks to the author.

A very beautiful hike with magnificent views that, in my opinion, is best done in spring or autumn. In hot weather, the sections on tarmac roads can be a little difficult (about 1/3 of the route).
Superb, thank you to the author of this hike.

A beautiful hike completed in 7 hours, covering 22.2 km, with a few minor errors (with a beginner...).
There was a bit of tarmac, but no cars and welcome clouds under the sun.
Thank you for this walk, the paths are very pleasant and the climbs are not too steep.

Departure from St André at 11am and return at 4.45pm on a beautiful summer's day, walking at a brisk pace but with a picnic break of around 45 minutes.
A lovely, undulating route through the Monts du Lyonnais countryside with numerous viewpoints.
The road section is not too long and is mainly on local roads.
We were very happy with this hike.

Departure from Côte St André at 9:15 a.m., return at 4:30 p.m. The weather is beautiful, so we take advantage of it to make lots of photo stops!
The description is accurate, but I mainly use the map, which shows the route very clearly.
This walk offers a wide range of views: to the east over the Rhône valley and the Alps, to the west over the Monts du Forez, to the north over the Mont d'Or Lyonnais and to the south over the Pilat. So there's a great variety of landscapes. Just one small criticism: nearly a third of the route is on tarmac, but then again, these are often local roads. The Matiole rock provides a beautiful picnic spot in the shade of the forest.

A beautiful hike, made even more interesting with a detour to the St André signal.
I've done it twice, with a walking time of 3½ to 4 hours including breaks, including the "binoculars" break at the signal.

A very pleasant, rural hike. Lots of open areas, which are enjoyable when the sun is shining.
The description of the route is very clear. The estimated time (7 hours) seems a little long to me. It took me 4½ hours (without breaks).
