Punta Cali Circular Route

Set off to explore this beautiful hike, which will take you to Punta Cali, a peak rising to 1,389 metres above sea level, marking the southern boundary of the commune of Vezzani and the western boundary of the commune of Pietroso. This trail alternates between forest sections with majestic Lariccio pines and more open rocky areas. It offers exceptional panoramic views, with a 360° vista of the island’s main peaks, numerous villages in central Corsica, the eastern coast, the Tyrrhenian Sea and the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago: Elba, Monte Cristo and Giglio.

Description of the walk

Leave the D343 south of Vezzani, taking a forest track that will lead you to the Vezzani village sports ground, and park, taking care not to block access.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, take the track for about 200 m and follow the orange markings to a metal tank.

(1) Take the track on your left; the one on the right is the one you will use to return. Continue to the next fork. You will occasionally find yellow dots on the trees.

(2) At the horseshoe bend, leave the main track and take the path on your left, heading uphill. A little further up, cross a track and continue along the path on the right, heading uphill, following the markings consisting of discs and yellow paint. Continue, keeping a close watch under the Lariccio pines, so as not to stray from the marked path, which is reinforced by cairns.

(3) Once you reach the track, leave it immediately to the right and take the path above the track, still marked in yellow. Continue to Punta Cali, the highest point of this circular route.

(4) Take the path downhill, marked in blue, and continue to a main track (horseshoe).

(5) Follow this track downhill to the Col de Foce.

(6) At the pass, leave the track to your right and head towards Vezzani, due north, downhill, following the orange markings. You will come to a fork.

(7) Continue left, following the orange markings, and head towards the metal tank you saw on the way there.

(1) Turn left and head to the stadium car park (S/E).

Please note: avoid this hike during wild boar hunting season on opening days.

  • A beautiful chestnut grove is located near the stadium, featuring educational panels and an orientation table.
  • The village of Vezzani is worth a visit.

Thank you for this lovely circular path – it’s well worth the effort! (Steep ascent and descent). The outward leg is shaded, wild and full of flowers, with lovely views over the eastern plain and Laguniellu. The summit meadow is home to wild boars. The path is clear and well-marked (a few extra markers would be welcome between points 2 and 3).

An interesting route. The signposting is generally good, although some sections of the path on the climb between points 2 and 3 lack landmarks. I recommend using the GPX track as it’s easy to lose your way. The rest of the route poses no problems. I really enjoyed the climb between points 3 and 4, where you have to use your hands.
It took us 4 hours to climb to the summit and 2 hours to descend.
In my opinion, the difficulty of this circular loop is upper-medium.
I recommend this hike.
Many thanks to Terrige for making these routes available; it really helps to showcase the village of Vezzani.
