Castelnuovo loop

From the church square, set off to explore the wild world of the Corsican maquis. You will walk along pastoral paths where you may encounter herds of goats and sheep, on the ridge separating the Tavignanu and Tagnone valleys. You will enjoy exceptional views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the island of Monte Cristo.

Description of the walk

Park in the church square.

(S/E) The trail starts at the top of the square, on the right between the houses, indicated by a sign and blue paint markings.

(1) Take the alley on the right, under the footbridge, and continue on the main path until you reach a crossroads.

(2) Turn right towards the east and join the D43.

(3) Take the D43 on the right, follow the blue markings for about 500 m until you reach a trail on the left.

(4) Leave the D43 and take the path on the left through the scrub, heading north at first, then north-west, until you rejoin the D43.

(5) Follow it to the right for about 300 m.

(6) Take the path on the right, which curves before rejoining the D43.

(7) Follow it to the right until you reach a roundabout.

(8) Keep left and follow signs for Vezzani-Pietroso on the D243 until you reach a building.

(9) Turn right onto the path parallel to the D243 and rejoin this road.

(10) Cross it carefully, take the path on the left, downhill, and pass the cemetery. You will come out onto the D343.

(11) Follow it, then leave it at the town hall and take the lane running alongside the park.

(12) Take the steps on the left and continue to the Place de l'Église (S/E).

Worth a visit

At Pointe de Castenuovo, the remains of an ancient Castellu (castle), with two magnificent trees, Montpelier maples, rare in the region, and a breathtaking view.

At the point (5), if the gate is open, don't hesitate to stop by Mr Jean Baldovini's artisan yoghurt shop, where he makes delicious sheep's milk yoghurt.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback; the section along the ridges is indeed very beautiful and offers some truly exceptional views!
As for the mud, it has indeed been a very wet winter, but things should improve in a few days… I hope.
Kind regards.

The main attraction of this circular walk is the exceptional view from the ridgeline.
The views from Punta Castelnuovo and Punta della Ringhella are spectacular.
The blue markings are clearly visible and make it easy to follow the route.
After point 10, there is a slightly tricky section with plenty of water and mud (due to an exceptionally wet winter).
