Circular Montgirod at Le Villard

Park at the Montgirod wash house: two or three cars maximum.

(S/E) Climb a few metres above the wash house to reach a path on the left that climbs steeply. Turn left at the first fork, cross the road twice and join the Water Discovery Trail.

(1) Follow this path, turning left and climbing steeply despite a few wide bends.

(2) Continue left on the path, which becomes easier.

(3) At the crossroads, descend to the left to see the end of the discovery trail and enjoy the landscape and panoramic views. Turn back and rejoin the route on the left, following the forest track which becomes a path. Pass under the power line and join the Hautecour Forest Road.

(4) Turn left for about a hundred metres, then take a well-marked path on the left and follow it downhill for a long way until you reach the Route des Alpages.

(5) Cross it and take the steep path that passes near the water catchment, rejoin the road, which you must cross again to return to the path opposite.

(6) At the junction, turn left and walk past some works of art to reach the village of Villard at Place de la Rouvenaz.

(7) Turn left to finish crossing the village and walk until you are directly below the intersection of two high-voltage power lines.

(8) Take the path on the left that goes uphill. Pass a path on the right and continue to an intersection of paths directly below another power line.

(9) Continue to the right to cross the stream and continue along the mountainside to reach Route de Montgirod.

(10) Follow this road without changing direction.

(11) Pass the small Saint-Grat Chapel and continue to the crossroads at the entrance to Montgirod.

(12) Turn left to follow the Route Pastorale, which leads directly to the wash house (S/E).

The return journey takes you along the Tarentaise balconies, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the valley and the majestic surrounding mountains.
