The Trouille circular in Givry

Park on Rue de Pâturages, in the car park of Saint-Martin Church in Givry.

(S/E) With your back to the church, turn left and then right into Rue des Juifs.

(1) At the fork near No. 16, turn right onto the path between the two gates. Then turn right and take the first left at a right angle to join Rue de la Petite Cavée. Follow this road, turning left, then take the path on the right marked by a blue sign with tractor and pedestrian symbols. Walk through a wooded area to emerge onto the Chaussée Brunehaut (N563).

(2) Turn left onto a short stretch with no pavement: please take care. At the junction, turn right towards La Trouille.

(3) Carry on straight ahead to follow the riverbank, walk past the footbridges, then cross the bridge, leaving the private road on your right. You’ll reach a three-way junction.

(4) Keep to the right to continue along the river via the path marked ‘dead end’ and enter a small, steep-sided valley. Cross the bridge over the Trouille, continue by crossing the river again and reach a junction at a place called La Meunerie.

(5) Take the path leading uphill to the left, Rue du Camp Romain, and follow this ridge path back towards the Trouille.

(4) Carry on straight ahead, following the river.

(3) Turn right to cross the final footbridge and join the path on the left between houses nos. 11 and 11A. You’ll come out onto the Chaussée Brunehaut (N563) and follow the road, turning right: this section has no hard shoulder, so please take care.

(6) Cross over and turn left onto Rue du Castiau, then follow the river to the end of the street, where you’ll find a footbridge and an old-style sign for “la Trouille”.

(7) Turn right, then immediately left onto the footpath which leads onto the N546, Rue de Pâturages. Follow it to the left, cross the river, then turn right into Rue Saint-Martin. At the T-junction, turn left towards the Cour Saint-Pierre farm and, at its gate, follow the path on the left until you reach Rue Saint-Donat.

(8) Turn left and, after the double garage of the red-brick house, turn right into the gravel drive and follow the path which goes round the houses in front of you until you reach Rue des Juifs. Follow this road to the right, then turn left at the junction to take Rue sous le Cimetière, which leads back to the church and the car park (S/E).
