Departure from the Agamy Cooperative Winery for a walk along the trails of five communes: Bully, Sarcey, Le Breuil, Chessy and Saint-Germain-sur-Arbresle. We are in the Pierres Dorées region of Beaujolais, with its hamlets such as Apinost and its wash house, the village with its school, castle, town hall and church. Description of the walk

Park at the Cave Coopérative aux Pierres Dorées.

(S/E) Head towards the A89 motorway.

(1) Turn left to follow it and join the Route de Chessy. Turn right, cross the bridge over the motorway and continue to the junction with the D118 at Places du Lac.

(2) Cross carefullyto the opposite side, then immediately turn right onto Chemin du Lavoir towards Apinost. Continue along the path that follows the road and you will arrive at the wash house with its golden stones.

(3) Continue to the right until you reach the crossroads, turn left onto Rue d'Apinost and ignore the first crossroads.

(4) Turn right onto Rue Pierre Dupont, then keep left at the three-way junction.

(5) Turn left and continue straight ahead, approaching the Ruisseau du Repiel stream, which you will follow from a distance through a small oak grove. At the crossroads, turn left and cross the stream.

(6) Head left to continue along the stream, then turn right away from it and come out onto a grassy path. Take it to the left at the edge of a wooded area.

(7) Turn right through a swing gate and head up towards the village of Bully.

(8) At the former Bully Fruits estate (Sous Bully), take the street on the left, then turn right to follow Chemin du Pavé, which passes between the vineyards, rejoins the tarmac road and leads to a junction with Rue de la Poterne.

(9) Turn right onto this street and continue straight ahead, passing in front of the private school to arrive at Place de l'Église, with its old plane trees and beautiful town hall nearby.

(10) Continue the route by turning right, then keep left at the three-way junction to follow Montée des Menerets along the castle wall. At the top , you will find a beautiful view and an old bourgeois house with the beautiful Lodge de Lao.

(11) Turn left to continue following the castle wall for about 500 metres, and join the Chemin de Tirefort below.

(12) Turn left, carefully cross the Route de Montagny and turn right for about 30 metres. Leave the road and take the path on the left. At the crossroads, turn right towards Montagny, make a detour to the left to go around the antenna and return to the road you crossed earlier.

(13) Head left, cross the bridge over the motorway, then turn right towards the cross. Then turn left to follow Chemin de Saint-Barnabé to Les Plats.

(14) Take the road uphill on the right towards Le Moulin.

(15) Carefully cross the Route de la Cave (D118) and, after 200 m on Chemin des Quartières, turn right towards Le Breuil. Keep to the right to cross a strip of woodland and reach a crossroads in open terrain.

(16) Take the path on the right, find a small road before Saint-Jean and follow it to the right to cross the locality.

(17) A good hundred metres further on, turn left onto the vineyard path, then right onto the road for 100 m, then leave it for a path on the left that leads to La Goutte de Glay, not far from a reservoir.

(18) Take the path on the right to climb up to the hamlet of Glay, with its wonderful golden stones.

(19) Continue straight on Rue des Carriers, turn left, then right onto Chemin de Treve Chavon and continue straight on to return to the cooperative winery (S/E).

•Thank you for this hike. I did it in reverse, to take advantage of the good light for photographing the village of Bully.
•From point 15 to point 14, I took a detour to pass through the hamlet of Montagny, which allowed me to see: a well topped with a rear-view mirror, the Montagny wash house (picnic spot) and the birthplace of Joseph Gillet, founder of the major Lyon industries that gave rise to Rhône-Poulenc.
•From point 12 to point 11: GPS in hand, I couldn't find the entrance to this path on private land, but it didn't matter because you can't see the castle when you pass by there. So I headed back to point 363, where I took the small road to Bully, which allowed me to see the magnificent castle farm and the town hall before arriving at the castle.
•From point 7 to point 6, GPS in hand, opposite where there should have been a path, we couldn't get through because thick bushes had fallen across the path. So we went directly from 7 to 6, opening the gate and taking the path marked in black on the map. When we reached the end, we easily climbed over the fence to get back on track.
•When we reached the intersection of Rue d'Apinost and the fork leading to the wash house, I preferred to cross the hamlet of Apinost to see the beautiful golden stone houses.

The description is not always very clear. A very beautiful hike, especially with the autumn colours.

Thank you, Mr Dalle, for your comment.
For your information, the busy path between 11 and 12 has been regularly used for a very long time by walkers and their dogs who walk around the castle grounds and cover 3 km.

Hello,

We did this route starting from Bully. The route was already signposted for the day's event (19 October), so it was easy to follow and we met lots of other walkers. Only one vineyard owner complained that we were passing through his property (between 11 and 12), as he was clearly not aware of the event. That said, there were no "private property" signs or barriers to cross (vineyards), so it wasn't really a problem...
One small criticism of the route description: the distances are not specified clearly enough. In fact, this criticism applies more generally to the writing of guidebooks. It's important when you have to change direction without a specific reference point. I know, conciseness is difficult...

Best regards,
JL DALLE

A very pleasant walk in the land of golden stones, covered in autumn colours. The hamlet of Glay is particularly beautiful.
