Circular route starting from Cervione

Located above Cervione, this hike offers a chance to admire varied landscapes and vegetation. The viewpoints, on either side of the mountains, also allow you to gaze from afar at built heritage, such as the Chapel of Scupiccia, for example, or the village of Santa-Maria Poggio. In the distance, out at sea, the Island of Monte Cristo can also be seen.

Description of the walk

As the village streets are narrow, it is best to park further down, along Strada Grossu Minutu, after the Piuvannaccia fountain.

(S/E) Take Traversa François Giacobbi towards the top of the village. Then take the first street on the left towards the Chapel of Scupiccia.

(1) Look out for the steps on the right, which you will take on the way back, and continue straight on along a dirt track suitable for vehicles. Pass the Piova fountain.

(2) At the second hairpin bend, leave the track and take the footpath that climbs to the right.

(3) Once you reach the pass, take the fork to the right. Look out for the orange markings. Be careful, as a road built for construction vehicles may have altered the route.

(4) Development work is altering the landscape, but the coloured markings make it easy to find the path. At this point, there is a spring that is very clearly signposted. Continue up the steep climb.

(5) Leave the Mare à Mare Nord path on your left and continue straight on.

(6) Keep to the right, heading towards Santa-Maria Poggio. Reach the Col de Felicione.

(7) Follow the path on the right, which descends towards Punta Rossa. Go round this small peak to the south and reach a junction.

(8) Go straight on, keeping to the right, towards Cervione, leaving the path on the left that leads to Santa-Maria Poggio. You will come out onto a small road north of Cervione.

(9) Turn right towards the village.

(10) Turn left onto the road leading downhill, then left again to reach the steps you must descend to return to the original path.

(1) Turn left then right to go down Traversa François Giacobbi and rejoin Strada Grosso Minutu. Return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Several springs or fountains are marked on the map, but they are not always accessible or even still flowing. It is therefore important to take enough water.
You should also wear trousers to cover your legs.

Worth a visit

At the start of the hike, you can take a detour to visit the Chapel of Scupiccia, or head down to visit the village of Santa-Maria Poggio.
Furthermore, the village of Cervione boasts an ethnographic museum and a rich religious heritage, such as the Franciscan monastery (16th century).

This is the second time we’ve done this route. It’s very well signposted. This circular route around Cervione climbs steeply right from the start, but what a view of the port of Taverne and Moriani on one side, and the Diana and Urbinu lakes on the other!
This time, we were curious enough to go and see the Madonna di A Scuppiccia and its breathtaking view (paragliding take-off point).
The descent down the other side through the woodland is quite quick.
A lovely, fairly quick hike – we finished an hour earlier than planned.
Thank you for this route.

A very well-described walk, which is also very pleasant and accurate in its description. I highly recommend it. I didn’t come across many people, even though the path is well maintained.

Hello and thank you for this wonderful walk. Cervione, a charming little village full of life, is a must-see – you simply have to wander through its narrow streets. We followed the route without any trouble.
There are plenty of viewpoints and you never tire of the scenery: the sea on one side, the mountains on the other with their magnificent forest and hilltop villages. As it was off-season, the temperature was ideal, and we didn’t meet many people along the way.
Oh, how beautiful it is up there!
