Ben Lomond - Ptarmigan

Circular walk to Ben Lomond summit. The first part to Ben Lomond summit is very touristic but the section going down is less as most people go up and down Ben Lomond using the same path. View over Loch Lomond is incredible.

Description of the walk

Start: Ben Lomond car park, Rowardennan (G63 0AR) Grid ref. NS 359 986

(S/E) From the car park take the path ( behind the toilets) indicating Ben Lomond. Continue straight on this large path for around 6 Km until reaching the summit of Ben Lomond. There is only one path and it is very popular.

(1) Once at the summit of Ben Lomond, continue straight in the direction of Leac na Cailiche and Bealach' Buidhe. This section is rocky and there is a bit of scramble to go down. This scrambling section is short and then the path is slowly going down and is larger. There is only one path. Continue straight on this path for around 4.6 Km until reaching a road (West Highland Way).

(2) At the intersection take left (South) on the West Highland Way and continue straight, ignoring any path coming from right or left, until reaching the car park (S/E)
