Altitude 936 m The trail leading directly up to the Ballon is a quiet zone that is closed from 15 December to 14 July. We took it yesterday, but in places it is completely closed off, especially at the start. Trees are lying across the top. In two years at most, it will disappear. Reserved for experienced hikers.

Hello, we left Le Thillot and passed through the Col des Couards via the yellow circular trail. We continued along the same trail to La Pransière. We took the D16 towards Ballon de Servance, then turned left onto the yellow trail, which initially resembled a stream. We arrived at the military road section and descended to the car park. From there, we took the GR 59, then the GR 7 to the Gouttes du Ballon shelter and then the Longeligoutte shelter. We reached the Col des Couards and returned to Le Thillot via the same route we had taken in the morning.

Hello,
To get to know this area well, I suggest avoiding the tarmac section of the RD16 by taking a detour via the village of Château-Lambert and the source of the Ognon river. See details below:
Take the D135 tarmac road down to Château Lambert (green rectangle signposting). Drive through the village, noting the mountain museum on the left, which you can visit in the evening if time allows. On leaving the village, take the discovery trail (green rectangle and red circle) which climbs through the moorland. At the "Labour" station, turn left behind the hunters' chalet to reach a tarmac road. Turn left until you reach the RD 16. Walk downhill for about 100 metres (green disc), pass the monument to the memory of the 1st Morvan Regiment, then turn right and walk up the Jean Tissot trail (red disc). At the second "forêt domaniale" sign, leave the marked trail and follow the path on the left along some beautiful little ponds. After 500 metres, you will see the source of the Ognon on your left in a bend.

Retrace your steps slightly, turn left, go through the gate and follow the path (old red circle) that winds its way under the fir trees to rejoin the Tissot path. Turn left. The path crosses a wild landscape of rocks eroded by the ancient glacier and old snow basins. Here you are at the RD 16 at a place called La Pransière
This is only a few hundred metres further on
