Description of the walk

Start : Hannah's Meadow gate on the Pennine Way. Grid ref. NY 929 187 ; Coord. 54.56614, -2.10456 ; W3W: ogre.insisting.nutrients

(S) Following the sign for the Pennine Way, go through the gate with Hannah's Meadow/High Birk Hatt and follow the road South-East, keeping left at the junction.

(1) At High Birk Hat Farm turn right and continue to follow the track West alongside Blackton Reservoir, keep following the signs for the Pennine Way.

Alternative Route - If you wish to extend this walk, you can turn left at the farm and follow the North Shore Footpath around Blacktoon Reservoir. You will need to follow the path all the way around the reservoir to meet back up with the Pennine Way again.

(2) After 360m, turn left (South) and cross the bridge over the River Balder. Follow the track around to the left and cross Hunder Beck.

(3) Just beyond the beck, the Pennine Way splits, take the right-hand track South. You will have a wall to your left, continue past the derelict building.

(4) On reaching Clove Lodge, continue straight past the property heading South. The track passes a small parking area.

(5) Then look for a Pennine Way sign which should point uphill across open fields in a South-East direction. This path will steadily climb upwards towards Peatbrig Hill. There are many sikes here (small streams).

(6) Then, you will reach a footbridge over one of the deeper sikes, the path will then continue South-South-East.

(7) After reaching the highest point on the walk, you will cross another well defined footpath. Continue walking in a South-East direction. Continue to descend Knotts Hill passing a sheetfold on your right and another footpath to your left.

(8) After crossing another footbridge, the path swings to the left past a building and then right again off the track and across the moorland continuing in a South-Easterly direction for about 400m. The path will turn South and will begin to climb again.

(9) After 500m you should see Ravock Castle (a pile of stones) to your left, the path will turn South-East again. You could see other piles of stones close to the path.

(10) The path will turn South again and cross another footbridge before turning South-West skirting around Pasture End on the side of the A66 road (E).
