Parking at the gymnasium or nearby secondary school.
(S/E) With your back to the canoe and kayak club, head towards the RD130 and cross it in front of the secondary school, using the pedestrian crossing, then take the lane opposite which leads into the housing estate. Take the street that goes up to the left and then, at the top, turn left.
(1) Enter the path opposite after crossing the RD 91 (watch out for traffic). Cross the stream on the footbridge and turn right to walk up the Claireau valley, continuing straight ahead and following theGR® markings. This pretty path runs alongside the forest on your left, offering beautiful views of the properties, ponds and grasslands on your right.
(2) Cross the RD91 (mind the traffic) and climb the fairly steep path opposite, following theGR® markings, then bear left to continue climbing into the Montfort National Forest.
(3) At the top, turn right onto the wide forest path. After 150 metres, leave this path and theGR® trail on the right to enter the undergrowth between the plots. After 200 metres, turn left to follow a side path, which is more pleasant than the main path.
(4) On the Route Forestière de Cahaigne, climb left to the Rond de Beuvron. Take a short break to admire the Rond de Beuvron pine tree, one of 11 remarkable trees highlighted by the ONF, before continuing along the Allée Forestière du Midi, straight ahead, heading south.
(5) At the end of Grand Val, continue straight ahead, cross the usually dry ford, admire the Grand Val maple tree (a remarkable tree highlighted by the ONF) and then, just before the railway bridge, turn right to go up Allée du Chevreuil, which offers beautiful views of the forest valley.
(6) At the large crossroads, turn left onto Allée Forestière des Bruyères. Follow theGR® to the left-hand bend, where you leave the beautiful avenue by turning right onto a more rural path.
(7) After the barrier, turn left to walk alongside a beautiful plot of pine trees. At the edge of the forest, take the small road on the right.
(8) Enter the medieval castle site and follow the path on the right, which offers a beautiful view of the ramparts and then the Risle valley. After the steps, don't hesitate to take a look at the upper courtyard (200 m round trip via the same path).
(9) Head down to the right via the Sente Saint-Nicolas. At the bottom, on Rue de l'Écu, continue downhill to the left for 20 m, then turn immediately right onto Rue du Cadran (following the yellow markings until you reach your destination). After 150 metres, turn left onto the small path and cross the D130 on the pedestrian crossing. Continue for about 20 metres to the right.
(10) Go down to the left towards the spring and its pretty18th-century wash house, then continue along the gravel path towards Château de la Motte. Once past the houses, turn immediately left onto the grass to walk alongside the properties and cross the stream via a footbridge.
(11) Walk along the edge of the Risle to the right, take the time to admire the château, chapel and dovecote, then continue along the path that runs alongside the river to the canoe and kayak club (A/D).
