Park at the Lac de Devesset leisure centre. Please note: there is an entry charge from 10.00 to 18.00, so arrive before then.
(S/E) Walk northwards along the lake, cross the leisure centre, the beach and the children’s play area, then take the signpostedPR®® path (white and yellow) which runs alongside the campsite below (please note: do not take the path that goes round the lake).
(1) Cross the tarmac road (D9) and, immediately afterwards, turn left onto a slight incline. At the first junction, turn right, continuing slightly uphill. At the second junction, turn left and reach the top of the climb.
(2) Turn left at a 90° angle, walk alongside the fir tree plantation and you’ll arrive just above the village of Devesset (3 crosses + a bench on your right). Head downhill and walk through the village past the church.
You’ll reach the square and cross the D9 road.
(3) Walk past the large ‘Hiking Map’ sign and head to the right, still following the white and yellow markings. Walk past a covered reservoir (non-potable water) and continue straight on along a track that slopes gently downwards.
(4) Then take a narrower track heading due west on the right. Walk through the wood. On emerging from the wood, take the path on the right and walk past the Goujon house. You will then reach the top of some magnificent fields. Follow the descending track to arrive in front of the farm, then cross the tarmac road.
(5) Head between the two farm buildings (still following the white/yellow markings) to continue along the track through the cultivated fields. Continue down a final slope through the woodland.
(6) Follow this wide track to the left for about 350 metres, reaching the lowest point of the walk.
(7) Head back up to the left along the small track through the woods. Pass close to Les Baraque. Continue straight on, following the white and yellow markings. Join a small tarmac road; follow it straight on, passing Les Sapins, and arrive at the hamlet of Les Sables. Continue on the tarmac, straight on for approximately 300 metres.
(8) Leave the tarmac road via a small track on the left which leads to the Mayfraiches stopover lodge. Lake Devesset is now visible, to the left below. Continue straight on, still following the white/yellow markings.
(9) At the T-junction, turn left, head down towards the lake and join the path that circles it. Cross the dam and turn left to reach the leisure centre, beneath the fir trees. There are some lovely spots for picnics and swimming (S/E).
