Around Quelmer, starting from La Goëléterie

A circular trail of about 10 km around Quelmer, starting from La Goëléterie. Points of interest: the banks of the Rance, La Passagère, the boat graveyard at La Passagère, the Pointe de la Roche du Port with its superb views of the Rance, and splendid malouinières (traditional houses) along the way.

The first part of this route follows the coastal path. The second part follows another route called "Around Quelmer and La Passagère".

Description of the walk

Start and finish at La Goëléterie, at the intersection between Rue and Impasse de la Goëléterie. Parking is available on the street near the Aurore Holiday Centre manor house. There is also a bus stop.

(S/E) Take Impasse de la Goëléterie and head down towards the Rance.

(1) Turn left onto the coastal path (GRP®) and follow it to La Passagère and Pointe du Grouin.

(2) At La Passagère, continue along the coastal path via Rue de La Passagère (D5).

(3) Turn right towards the sea cemetery and continue along the coastal path.

(4) Depending on the tide in the Rance (which differs from the sea tide due to the dam), the water may be too high to follow the Rance. In this case, you will need to go around the block.

(5) Follow the Rance along the low wall at the bottom of the Saint-Elier property and, turning right at the end, go around the Pointe de La Roche du Port.

(6) Cross the small road that leads up to the hamlet of Val Es Bouillis, cross a small stream and take the path that leads up to the left towards the fountain. Walk along the wall of the Val ès Bouillis manor house and, at the end of the path, you will find yourself on a road on the right.

(7) At a bend in the road, take the path that descends towards the Rance.

(5) Follow the low wall again and, at the end, turn right onto a path that climbs up alongside Saint-Elier. Cross the road.

(8) Shortly afterwards, turn left onto the path indicating the return to La Goëtrie.

(9) At the end of the field you have been walking alongside, turn left into the woods. Continue along the path past the IME la Passagère, then take a small footpath to the end point (S/E).

A lovely route, not very busy, with consistently pleasant views of the Rance. I agree with the previous comments. St Elier is a little tricky and point 6 does require concentration as you tend to head into the hamlet rather than along the path to the fountain.

A lovely route that is well worth the detour. Easy and peaceful, even for families, for most of the way.
However, Saint Elier cove is difficult: very muddy (your shoes will sink in deeply), slippery and covered with unsettling green seaweed. Ultimately, be very careful on this section, even when the tide is not a problem. Otherwise, it is easy to get around.

Taking the tide into account is important when passing through St Elier Cove.

Very good hike, very well-described route. Be careful at point 6, the small path on the left is not easy to see, especially when the grass has not been cut!
My only regret: despite being completely immersed in nature, you are reminded that civilisation is close by. On the busy roads nearby, you can hear cars, motorbikes, etc.
Still worth remembering, though.
Best regards, RandoRosy

Hello everyone,
A very beautiful course with a well-filled Rance basin, but no difficulty in passing through.
There was a beautiful ship graveyard after point 3,
longer distance (10.630 km) than the one listed (9.530 km), so 3 hours and 20 minutes.
But no hesitation: this is a route worth doing.
Best regards, Yves.
