Around Chatenay-Malabry

From the Parc de la Vallée aux Loups to the Chateaubriand Museum and the botanical garden, via the Fontaine Levron, then the Parc Départemental de la Roseraie. A walk through the Parc du Domaine de Sceaux, along the grand canal, past the Octogone and, finally, past the 17th-century Château de Sceaux.

Description of the walk

Both stations are located on the same section of the RER B line. From Châtelet station: for those travelling by car, park in the car park at either station and make a return journey by train.

(S) With your back to Robinson station, turn right onto Rue de la Gare to reach Rue Houdan.

(1) Turn right until you reach the crossroads, then left onto Avenue des Quatre Chemins for a few dozen metres, then turn right onto Rue Anatole France and walk past the Jardin de l’Île Verte.

(2) Turn left onto Rue de Chateaubriand and walk alongside the Jardin de l'Aigle Blanc.

(3) Enter the park on the right through the large black gate to visit the Maison de Chateaubriand, its museum and its park, which is well worth seeing, then return.

(3) Continue straight on towards the Arboretum. Cross this park to reach the Botanical Garden.

(4) Turn right, then left, walk along the pond and cross it via the footbridge.

(5) Turn right, then right again, and leave the park.

(6) Head straight ahead onto Rue de Chateaubriand, then turn right onto Rue Roger Salengro, and arrive at the Parc de la Roseraie.

(7) Enter the park, cross it and exit at the other end onto Place Voltaire. Turn right, pass Place de l’Église Saint-Germain and turn left onto Rue Sainte-Catherine. Cross a junction and continue straight on along Grande Voie des Vignes. Pass in front of Stade Pitray-Olier and Collège Gustave Eifel.

(8) Cut across the roundabout and enter the Parc du Domaine de Sceaux opposite, via the Pavillon de Hanovre.

(9) Follow the PR® to the right and arrive at the Grand Canal basin. Turn right and walk around the basin.

(10) At the first junction, take the first path on the right, the Allée Bossue, and head towards the Octogone via the Allée des Corbeaux.

(11) Turn right and follow the PR® path which runs alongside the Octogone basin. At the end of the basin, turn right, following the stream along the Allée de la Duchesse, then take the steps and continue straight ahead.

(12) At the Musée du Domaine Départemental de Sceaux, turn right into the Cour d'Honneur, then turn left.

(13) Turn right and head towards the Pavillon de l'Aurore to exit.

(14) Turn right onto Avenue Franklin Roosevelt and then immediately left to walk alongside the Tennis de la Ménagerie. Before reaching the roundabout, turn right.

(15) Turn right, then immediately left onto Avenue du Lieutenant Jean Masse. Turn left, cross Rue du Lycée, cross the railway line, and follow Chemin de Paris to the crossroads.

(16) Turn right onto Rue de la Marne, then left onto Rue Arnoux, and turn left onto Rue Arnold Wingennier. At the crossroads, take the second right onto Rue des Blagis and cross the railway line. At Square Theuriet, continue to the left to reach Bourg-la-Reine station (E).

Thank you for your comments; things have certainly changed since my last visit. I’ve had to redo this walk and adjust the route accordingly.

There are many issues with following this route
Entrance to Chateaubriand Park closed
The exit signposted for the arboretum is closed
Had to go back to the main entrance and follow the road to rejoin the route
The entrance signposted for the Rose Garden is the wrong one; you have to carry on further and turn right, then you’ll find the park entrance
To leave the park, the exit signposted is closed, so you have to go further on and turn right to rejoin the route
Next, the entrance to Sceaux Park is currently unavailable as the Hanover Pavilion is undergoing renovation
So, I managed it by walking 15 km instead of 12
Never mind, but all these mistakes are a shame as the route is very interesting
Best of luck to the route planner, and a big thank you to him or her – I can’t remember which

In response to your message, I would like to emphasise and stress the following: when I walked past with my group, the Colbert gate was open; I therefore do not understand your reaction to this. We then continued on to the large black gate to the right of the Chateaubriand entrance.
You tell me that, essentially, by trying to cover too much ground, the route skips over the most interesting parts, missing the arboretum, the bonsai collection, the Ile Verte, and the Parc de Sceaux.
From point 10 to point 15, you are indeed in Parc de Sceaux, as well as the arboretum at points 6 and 7 and the botanical garden.
Kind regards
Yvon

This is the first time I’ve posted a negative review of a Visorando walk, but this really takes the biscuit!
I was familiar with the route and had expected this to some extent, but I wanted to check: there is no passage between the Bois de la Cave (known as the Parc Boisé at the entrance) and the grounds of the Maison de Chateaubriand. All the gates are closed and have always been so. Consequently, the passage at point 4 is not possible (Colbert gate), nor is the second gate further up. There is no other option but to go back up to the entrance and take the second gate to reach Chateaubriand’s house.
At point 8, same story: the gate is also closed all year round. The only option is to walk back up to the car park and exit onto the road there.
After point 9, exit at the Château de la Roseraie: gate closed!! You have to go round the château on the other side and exit a little further up.
At point 10, the gate to enter Parc de Sceaux is closed (!!!) due to work on the Hanover Pavilion. The correct entrance is 100 m further down.
Miraculously, the gates at points 16 and 17 were open...
In short, this route looks to me as though it was drawn on the map but not checked in person, which is not something one should do!
And as for the route itself: in trying to cram too much in, the route skips over the most interesting parts, missing the arboretum, the bonsai collection, the Ile Verte, and Sceaux Park.
