Description of the walk

Beaumont-sur-Lèze sports ground car park (Place Clément Ader).

(S/E) With your back to the village, go down Avenue de la Lèze on the right, and just before the bridge, turn left onto the path that runs alongside the Lèze before veering away from it and turning left. Once back on the road, go straight on along the cemetery path.

(1) After passing the cemetery, turn left onto the road and continue alongside the cemetery. 200 m further on, take the hairpin bend to the right onto the road leading downhill (Chemin du Besi). At the junction 200 m further down, turn left to stay on the Chemin du Bési.

(2) Further up, after passing the last houses, take the path on the left which climbs into the forest. Once out of the forest, turn left onto the road until the next junction, and there turn right towards the pet cemetery.

(3) After passing the animal cemetery, take the path on your right that runs alongside the forest (not the one going up into the forest). After passing a farm and walking alongside a small forest, at elevation 232, take the path on the left to return first to Chemin de Capillou, which you follow to the left, then onto the Miremont road. Turn right onto this road.

(4) 200 m further on, take the path on the left (Chemin de Pitre) which passes under the high-voltage power lines. Once you reach the large house, follow the path to the right of it. The path enters the forest and runs alongside the high-voltage power line.

(5) At the junction with a slightly wider track, turn left onto this track. A little further on, cross a stream (the RieuTort) in the forest.

(6) Once back on the tarmac, continue straight on along Chemin de Saint-Martin. When you reach the junction with a “main” road (Route de Miremont), follow it to the left for about 500 m.

(7) Turn right onto a path that climbs between the houses (opposite the first house you pass on the left).

(8) When you reach a tarmac junction, continue almost straight on along the Chemin de Montmaurel, which descends and ends in a path.

(9) Back on the road, turn right (Chemin de Millet) then left to return to the village centre and then back to the car park (S/E).

A lovely walk – the only thing to note at the start is that when you want to follow the banks of the Lèze, the path is blocked by a gate. A few metres further up, there’s a small gap between the trees that lets you walk along the field and join the path running alongside the Lèze just after the gate. No need to go back up to the cemetery 😊. Enjoy the walk!!

Hello, The starting point needs to be changed; you can’t follow the Léze: the path is blocked by a gate. You’ll need to rejoin the route from the cemetery or start the walk from the cemetery. Best regards, Yves

A lovely walk, with varied paths and scenery, which can be done even after a spell of rain, featuring beautiful views and that incredible animal cemetery – apparently one of only two in France!

I went on this hike on 30 September. The problem at the start was that the path leading off just before the bridge over the Leze was blocked by a large wire-mesh gate with a chain and padlock 🔒. I had to go back up to the village and rejoin the route by following the main street to the cemetery. After that, everything went well, but there are no markings for the middle section that links up with the main PR route shown in blue on the map. It’s a shame, as this is the most interesting part, a path through the woods...
I think there’s too much tarmac, especially in the first hour.
The start probably needs adjusting because of the closed path

Completed in 3 hours, covering around 13 km – it’s impossible to start by walking along the Lèze; you have to set off from the village. Elevation gain of around 300 metres. Paths, roads, woods and fields – a pleasant walk through the countryside.
