Description of the walk

Start: Belvedere Schöne Höhe

(S/E) From there, the path leads down into the Wesenitzgrund valley to the Dittersbach Castle Park.

(1) The route now leads out of the castle park and runs through the Liebling Valley (yellow dot), past the Hubertus Chapel (2), the King Anton Monument (3) (founder of the first Saxon Constitution) and the Constitution Column (4).

(5) At the edge of the wood before the Teufelsbrücke, you must leave the marked path and turn sharply to the right. The route now continues through the wood and up through the adjacent field to the S161 country road, then heads westwards to St Barbara’s Church.

(6) Follow the cycle and walking path, which runs along the embankment of a former railway line and offers magnificent panoramic views, to the Herrmann-Glöckner Fountain in Wünschendorf (7), then up to the Kohlberg (8) (green line) and finally back to the Schöne Höhe viewpoint (S/E)

Worth a visit

(1) The park contains another work of art from the Semper era: at the entrance to a stone grotto, a nymph fetching water, sculpted by Ernst Rietschel (1804–1861), faces the viewer.

(6) This building, which is essentially medieval in character, was partially remodelled in the 19th century and fitted with a Herbig organ, for which Gottfried Semper created a remarkable façade adorned with figures.
