Start: Audley End Train Station, Station Road, Essex, Wendens Ambo, (CB11 4LB). Grid Ref: TL 5167 3630
(S/E) We start our walk at Audley End train station. Walk straight (East) onto the car park and then left (North East) to exit the car park at the corner of Neville House. Walk up (North) the street until you arrive at the crossroad with B1039 (Rayston Road). Take the left (West) on B1039. Stay on B1039 for 430 m.
(1) Then the B1039 bends to the left (South). Do not follow it, you can see a footpath on your right (North) going in the opposite direction to the B1039. Take this footpath and follow it going through fields for 720 m. When you get to the end of the footpath, facing a forested area, turn right (East). After a few meters, you will need to safely cross the rail tracks using the dedicated pedestrian crossing. In total, walk on this footpath for 700 m. The path heads towards the East and then bends to the South East direction. You arrive at the end of the footpath and reach B1383.
(2) Turn left (North) onto B1383 (London Road). Please note that there is a sidewalk on B1383 for pedestrians to walk up and down the road safely. Stay on B1383 for 1.2Km
(3) At the crossing with Spring Hill, take right (East) onto Spring Hill. Stay on Spring Hill for 1 Km. On your way, you walk across a bridge over the River Granta. You pass in front of the massive entrance gate of Audley End House with a Lion statue on top of the gate. Then you walk alongside the red brick wall of the estate.
(4) After 1 Km, before the crossing with Wenden Road, you find the entrance of Audley End Estate on your left. Enter the Estate. Take the path in front of you and continue on this footpath for 510 m heading towards the North East. You then arrive at a lodge with a tower.
(5) Once you get to the lodge, take the second footpath on your left (West).
(6) After 260 m, take the footpath on your right (North). After a few meters, the path then bends towards the left (West). Follow this path for 910 m heading towards the West and then the North West.
(7) After 910 m, you come to a junction with a path heading South West into a forested patch. Take the left (South West) on this path.
If you miss it and continue on the same footpath don't worry when it comes to an end you reach a road. Takes left (South) on this road and you will arrive at the exact same spot.
You now need to cross over the River Granta. There is a stepping stone way for this. It might sound scary but it is a really short and easy one. Once on the other side, there is a countryside road going through a field. Follow this road North West until you reach B1383 (London Road).
(8) Turn left (South) onto B1383 (London Road) and walk down (South) the road for 580 m. You then arrive at the exact same crossroad on waypoint(3)
(3) This time continue straight at the crossroad (South West) and retrace your steps. Walk down B1383 (London Road) for a further 1.2 Km. You find the entrance of the field we walk through on waypoint (2) on your right (West). Enter the field and walk on the path alongside the crops for 500 m. You have to walk across rail tracks on your way.
(9) A few meters after the rail tracks, take the footpath on your left and walk down (South) this path for 1.2 Km until you reach the end of the field. You arrive on Royston Road at waypoint (1). Take left (East) on Royston Road and then after crossing the rail tracks, take right (South) onto the alley going through the station car park which we took at the start.
