Park in the car park in the oval section of Rue des Marronniers near the old red-brick town hall. In a straight line and at right angles: the imposing buildings of the Saint-Éloi rolling mills and the two chimneys (one circular, the other square - one of the last in Europe) bear witness to the rich industrial and metallurgical past of the area in the 19th and 20th centuries.
(S/E) Take Rue des Marronniers along the old rolling mills and continue along Rue de la Pairelle. At the roundabout, take Route de Bonnière.
(1) About 100 metres after the roundabout, turn right onto a path that runs alongside a river teeming with fish.
(2) Cross Route de Bonnière and go up Rue Trieu l'Abbé.
(3) At the Place Saint Walhère crossroads, turn left onto Rue de la Brasserie.
(4) At the chapel, take the path that climbs left across the fields.
(5) Leave the path on the right and go up the sunken path straight ahead. It climbs higher and soon offers a clear view of the entire plateau.
(6) At the crossroads, take Allée Sud to the right. Continue along this path and it becomes Allée Nord after crossing Allée Centrale at a right angle.
(7) At the exit of the Bois de Baconval, take Rue des Éperons to the right.
(8) Continue along Rue du Vieux Chêne, turning right again, and continue straight ahead until you reach the crossroads you passed on the way there.
(6) Take Allée Sud to the right and join Rue de Nalinnes.
(9) After this circular through a residential neighbourhood with lots of trees, cross the road (watch out for traffic) and take the forest path 50 metres further on to the left. Long crossing of the Thy-le-Château communal wood.
(10) Take the path on the right and continue to the edge, ignoring all the side paths. Make a short detour to a pond.
Splendid view of Trazegnies Castle on the right, beyond the meadows.
(11) Turn right onto Rue de Namur.
(12) 200 m further on, take Rue Try Grès, which winds its way through the pastures. Second lovely view of Trazegnies Castle from a little closer. Cross Rue Les Tris and continue straight on to the next crossroads between unpaved paths.
(13) Go down the grassy path on the left towards Berzée. At the houses, go down Rue Froide to the Berzée level crossing (Charleroi-Walcourt-Mariembourg-Couvin railway line) on the right.
(14) Cross the railway line and the Eau d'Heure river. Take Rue Bout de la-Haut.
(15) Turn right onto Rue Pont de Bois.
(16) After the houses, turn left halfway up the hill onto Chemin Vicinal No. 9. Follow it for about 200 metres and turn left onto the road towards the cemetery. Admire the church and Trazegnies Castle as you pass. Continue along Rue Haies Genettes.
(17) Turn left onto Rue Martia to reach Berzée station. Take the raised pedestrian crossing over the tracks and turn right onto Rue du Faubourg.
(18) Take Rue Bois Mignon to the right. Follow the RaVeL (former railway line connecting Berzée to Laneffe) to the church of Thy-le-Château and admire both this massive local stone building and the castle next to it.
Continue straight ahead to return to the starting point (S/E).
