The trail starts in the car park of the Vallée du Loir tourist train station (TTVL).
(S/E) Go around the old station and cross the railway line. Turn left and follow the path at the foot of the troglodyte caves to thefirst level crossing. Continue straight ahead on the path alongside the railway line until you reach asecond level crossing.
(1) Then turn right onto the carriageway that climbs up to a road. Follow this road to the left for a few dozen metres.
(2) At the crossroads, turn right and follow theGRP® (red and yellow markings). Ignore a small road that descends to the left. TheGRP® then turns right onto a path through the vineyards. At a fork, turn right. Join the D82, turn left and stay on the path parallel to this road.
(3) Cross the road (take care) and continue with theGRP® on a good path through the vineyards. Head south and ignore all the paths branching off to the sides. At the end of the path, turn right. Ignore a path branching off to the left.
(4) At the next intersection, continue straight ahead (leaving theGRP® trail on your right). Enter the "Bois de Quartevault" forest and follow the path straight ahead as it descends.
(5) Follow the motocross trail to the left. Continue south-west, still in the forest. The path then heads south and leads to a road.
(6) Cross the road (take care) and follow theGR®35(red and white markings) to the right. This quickly leaves the road, descending to the left along a sunken path to a place called La Saulnerie.
(7) Turn left just before the small road to La Saulnerie. Continue for a few hundred metres. Just before a series of cellars, turn left (west) onto a small, fairly steep path that is not shown on the map (leave theGR®35). Stay on the hillside, still in the Bois du Chêne (heading west-southwest), and you will come out onto a small road.
(8) Follow it to the right. Pass through the hamlet of Les Coutils and note the troglodytic dwellings. At a fork, follow the path on the left that climbs gently. At the edge of the woods, rejoin theGR®35and follow it to the right. This will take you to the bottom of the hillside at the village of Cherchenois.
(9) Then turn sharply right onto theGR®35, which follows a road. Pass the first road on the left and continue straight ahead on a good carriage road. After about 150 metres, at a fork, take the left-hand path, still following the GR®. Several blockhouse ruins can be seen along the way.
(10) At the level crossing, take a small road on the right to enter La Saulnerie. After about 50 metres, leave the road and take a path that branches off to the left along the railway line (follow theGR®). Further on, you will come to a road; follow it to the left. At the level crossing, continue straight ahead to Thoré station (S/E).
