Description of the walk

Start from the car park at the village exit, heading towards Genestelle, below the main road (pay-and-display car park).

(S/E) From the car park, head towards the road and continue to the junction in the centre of the village, at the top of the hill.

(1) Turn left and arrive at Place de la Résistance. Walk past the entrance to the Maison Jean Ferrat (museum) and continue to the left of the church. Ignore a small side street on the right and reach a cross street.

(2) Continue to the right, leave the village, and head downhill. Pass by the Rocher du Fromage, then cross the bridge over the Volane. Walk a few metres to the left, taking care, and reach the viewpoint on the left, at the right-hand bend in the road.

(3) Then turn back and cross the bridge again. Continue along the road that runs alongside the Ruisseau de Bise on your right. At the next bridge, don’t hesitate to cross it and walk a few metres back and forth to enjoy a view of the village. On your return, turn right, walk alongside the remarkable lava flow that forms a cliff on your left, and reach the next junction.

(4) Just after this, leave the tarmac and take the steps climbing to the left. Continue along the path, then along a small track. Enter the village and rejoin the route you have already taken.

(2) Climb up to the right and, a few metres further on, take the hairpin bend onto the small lane to the left. Walk along the church wall on your right, noting the various sculptures attached to it. After going almost all the way round, retrace your steps and take the street on the right, Rue des Lavoirs, which starts at the back of the building. Follow this road to Place de la Résistance, then the junction with the A-road.

(1) Head downhill to the left, then take thefirst street on the right, towards the cemetery and the Maison d’Antraigues. Walk past the Espace Culturel Christine Sèvres on your left, then enter the cemetery and look for the grave of Jean Tenenbaum, known as Jean Ferrat, immediately on your right.

(5) The cemetery is divided into three sections; head down to thesecond section, below, and reach thethird section on the left. Continue straight ahead to reach the grave of Christine Sèvres (Jean Ferrat’s first wife).
Retrace your steps and exit the cemetery at the bottom. Continue carefully to the right until you reach the start of a path on the left with an information board.

(6) Take this path, reach the road below, cross it carefully, and arrive at a car park near the geological formation featuring the Cascade de l’Espissart (low water flow).

(7) Then walk carefully up the D-road and note the canal supplying the mills on your right. At the bridge, take a short detour to the left to see the Volane and the canal, then take the road leading up to the village of Antraigues, heading towards the village centre.

(1) At the fork at the top of the climb, continue along the A-road to reach the car park (S/E).
