Park along the road in a lay-by located just past the SPA buildings near the Canal de Roanne in Digoin.
(S/E) Turn right onto the small path that runs between two wooded areas and follow it for 300 m until you reach a wider track.
(1) Turn left and continue straight on, keeping the banks of the Loire on your right. Pass a wooden gate and an information sign on the left.
(2) The path branches off to the left. Follow it to the junction with another path, which you will come to
on the way back.
(3) Continue between the banks of the Loire and a gravel pit on your left
(4) At the ‘Gravières de Matel’ sign, leave the banks of the Loire, turn left onto the gently sloping path and arrive at a plateau with facilities to hide from the view of the many birds nesting on the pond, as well as picnic tables.
(4) Continue along the path, ignore the one branching off to the right and carry straight on along the path which crosses a
very shady area, skirting the gravel pit, and reach the fork from the outward journey.
(3) Turn right and retrace your steps along the route you took on the way there.
(1) Pass the path on your right leading to the car park and continue straight on along the banks of the Loire until you reach a path on the right.
(6) Turn right, leaving the banks of the Loire , and join a road. Here, you’ll find the SPA animal shelter if you’d like to see the dogs and cats up for adoption.
(7) Follow this road to the right along the Roanne Canal to Digoin until you reach the starting point (S/E).
