Description of the walk

Car park on Rue François Gérard in Wauthier-Braine along the Ravel L115.

(S/E) Follow the Ravel to the right towards Braine-le-Château. Cross the first junction.

(1) At the second junction, take the path on the right down to Rue de Mont-Saint-Pont. Turn left.

(2) After the last house (no. 149), a path climbs quite steeply into the woods on the right, the Sentier du Coucou. Follow it until you reach a road, which you cross. Continue along the path opposite, slightly to the right, until you reach Avenue du Beau Séjour.

(3) Turn left and take the pavement opposite. It climbs steeply. Ignore the road branching off to the left and, shortly afterwards, a small flight of steps leads down to the left.

(4) This is where the Sentier de l'Abbaye begins; follow it downhill until you reach the edge of the woods.

(5) Right at the edge of the woods, before the road, take the Sentier du Grippet on the right. You are now on the GRP®127, Tour du Brabant wallon. It climbs steeply and leads you to Rue des Radoux, which you should follow to the right until you reach a path branching off to the left, just before a junction.

(6) The entrance is rather uninviting, but the GRP® markings are there, clear. This path, the Sentier du Château de Fer, runs behind a riding school, where some fence posts lean over the path but do not block it. Join the Sentier à Bouclettes. Follow it to the right to reach Avenue du Beau Séjour. Turn left until you reach a T-junction. This is Rue Landuyt.

(7) Turn right and continue straight on. Cross over the motorway. Turn left onto the first path into the woods – Lindendreef – then immediately right down the path, which widens a little further on. Continue to the Rode Amerikaanse Eikendreef. Turn left.

(8) At the second major junction – 'de Acht Dreven' ('The Eight Drives') – take the third drive on your left, Vlasmarktdreef – landmark: VIP cycle park at the side of the drive. - Cross the motorway. Ignore the paths to the left or right and take the first path on the left. As it descends, it is quite steep. It leads to Rue aux Esprits, which you follow straight on, ignoring a street on the left and then another on the right until you reach a Y-junction at Sentier des Hautes Terres. Take the left-hand branch (Sentier des Genets) and immediately afterwards the path that climbs to the right. After a bend, it becomes a path between the fields. Continue straight on until you reach Rue Landuyt, very close to the point (7). Turn right until the next junction.

(9) Y-junction. Follow the left-hand branch and, immediately after, turn left again onto Rue aux Escarbilles. It descends very steeply. At the bottom, ignore a street on the left (Sentier à Bouclettes) and continue straight on. Very quickly, after about twenty metres, take the Sentier à Scrabouille which climbs to the right. It leads to a beautiful viewpoint over Braine-le-Château. You have a choice of various routes, but all lead to Rue Sentier Sainte-Anne. Follow it down to a T-junction. Reach Rue aux Escarbilles. Turn right, then left. Walk down for about ten metres until you reach the Sentier des Fiefs on the right.

(10) You’ll reach the entrance gate of a house. Just past the hedge on your right, the path begins. Ignore the two paths branching off to the right and continue straight ahead. It descends in a gentle curve to the left, then turns right. A little further on, take a moment to admire the old oak tree on your right and the enormous old willow. The path ends in a tarmac road which joins Rue Landuyt; take this road to the left until you reach Rue de Hal (N28). Turn left and stay on the central reservation. Twenty metres further on, on the left, a path begins.

(11) Take this path; it is the Sentier des Prés del Cour, which follows the Hain. It joins Rue de Mont-Saint-Pont. There is a pedestrian crossing on the left. Cross and turn right. Ten metres further on, continue left along Rue Charles Herman, which climbs up to the Ravel L115.

(12) Follow it to the left to reach the point (1) and then the car park (S/E) .
