Departure from Le Havre SNCF station.
(S/E) Take Cours La Fayette, which runs along the right side of the station building and leads to the Vauban basin. At the traffic lights, cross Quai Colbert and take the floating footbridge that crosses the harbour basin towards the Docks.
(1) On the other side of the basin is Quai Frissard; turn right. Cross a drawbridge and, at the roundabout, turn right again onto the Vauban bridge, another drawbridge. At the traffic lights, cross the boulevard towards Avenue Vauban to pass in front of the International Trade Centre. At the next crossroads, turn left up the very wide avenue (Quai George V). You will then arrive at the commercial basin. Go to the centre of the basin to take the large white pedestrian footbridge.
(2) Take the footbridge (beautiful view of the Volcano and the rebuilt city), then turn left onto the other quay (Quai de Lamblardie), then take the first right (Rue Chevalier) towards the Saint-François district. Cross the Place de l'Église Saint-François and take Rue de Bretagne, which runs along the right side of the church. Pass in front of the Old Le Havre Museum.
(3) At the end, turn right onto Quai Casimir Delavigne, then at the roundabout continue onto Quai de l'ïle, pass in front of the shipowner's house and cross the bridge. Leave Quai Notre-Dame on your right and then turn right onto Rue des Galions. Cross Rue Saint-Jacques. Walk behind the Natural History Museum and turn left onto Rue du Docteur Belot until you reach Rue de Paris (main road), then walk down it on the left-hand side. Walk past the cathedral.
(4) At the end of Rue de Paris, turn right onto Quai de Southampton, then stay on the quayside, turning towards Chaussée Kennedy at the traffic lights. Go around the Malraux Museum and walk along the marina.
(5) At the central breakwater that divides the marina in two, turn right onto Rue Frédérick Lemaître to find yourself in front of Saint Joseph's Church (a visit inside is recommended). Then go up Boulevard François Ier on the left until you reach the tram line, then follow it to the left. Go through the Porte Océane and cross Boulevard Clemenceau towards the beach.
(6) Take the pedestrian path on the right that goes around the car park. After the car park, walk up the wide Boulevard Albert Ier that runs along the beach.
(7) At the top of this boulevard, on the border between Le Havre and Sainte-Adresse, you will come to a roundabout. Take the street furthest to the right, which goes uphill (Rue Claude Monet). At the top of this street, continue straight ahead until you come to a crossroads with traffic lights and a monumental statue in front of a belvedere. Then turn left and go up Rue Cochet.
(8) After about 400 metres, you will come to an X-shaped crossroads. Take the leftmost street, Rue du Fort. You will then walk alongside the Fort de Sainte-Adresse, where there are hanging gardens. Continue up Rue du Fort, which then becomes Rue Henri Belanger. Turn right onto Rue Louis Leprévost until you reach a roundabout near a supermarket.
(9) Turn right down Rue Cochet, then immediately left behind the supermarket onto Rue du Docteur de la Boissière, which becomes Rue Michel Delaroche when it crosses the main Rue de la Cavée Verte.
(10) When you reach Rue Félix Faure, cross it (very beautiful view) and take the stairs opposite that lead down to Rue Germaine Coty. At the bottom of the stairs, turn left and then right again onto the market stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, turn right onto Rue des Gobelins until you reach a small roundabout with three trees in the middle (Place des Gobelins).
(11) Then turn left down the short Rue Foubert, then left again onto Rue du Président Wilson until you reach a crossroads with traffic lights. Cross Square Saint-Roch and return to the other side of Avenue Foch, one of the widest avenues in France.
(12) From this point, follow the tram line. Walk up Avenue Foch to the left, cross the very large Place de l'Hôtel de Ville and walk up Boulevard de Strasbourg, passing the sub-prefecture and the courthouse, until you reach the SNCF train station (S/E).
