Park in the small car park on Rue de la Mairie in Château-Larcher, near the church.
(S/E) Take the street that descends steeply just before the statue of Christ and the war memorial. Walk back up from the car park on Rue de la Mairie and turn left at the Auberge de la Clouère to reach the junction with Route de Gençay.
(1) Follow this road straight ahead to the Croix Saint-Martial. Turn left here onto Route d’Aslonnes for a few hundred metres. Turn left off this road to take Rue des Poulies for a few metres. Continue right onto Chemin des Chaumes, which follows on from it, and follow the yellow markings. Reach the edge of a wood.
(2) Enter the woodland and then cross the River Douce. At the road, continue straight ahead to reach the Dolmen d’Arlait, slightly to the right of the path.
(3) Return to the path and turn right. You will arrive beneath the high-voltage power line; continue along the gently sloping path downwards and follow the cliff on the right, where there are a few caves.
(4) At the end of the cliff, turn right heading due north to quickly reach the junction with theGR®364.
(5) Turn left here, following the red and white markings, cross the Clouère stream and continue past the houses in the hamlet of Le Roseau. Take the road that climbs to the left (route 17) and pass in front of a beautiful house on Rue de Roquillon.
(6) Leave theGR® here and continue left along Rue de Roquillon. Then carry on left into Rue de la Chapelle. Pass the Baptress chapel and continue right along Chemin Vert, which starts next to a white gate.
(7) At the top of Chemin Vert, turn right onto Rue du Pigeonnier and continue to the junction with the D742.
(8) Cross it carefully and follow the path opposite. Continue along this path through open countryside; after the left-hand bend, you’ll reach a wide path at the entrance to Château-Larcher.
(9) Turn left into Rue des Granges, then turn right into Rue du Pont de la Trappen and follow it for a few metres until you reach a path junction.
(10) Turn right onto the small path passing in front of a sort of courtyard with a shed and continue along a narrow, stony passage that requires walking in single file. Continue along this path to reach the Fontaine d'Écrouzilles.
Note: this path may be flooded and slippery.
(11) Turn left onto the wide path, enter the woods and continue generally eastwards to reach the Croix Brune junction.
(12) Turn left, then immediately right towards the campsite and the playground. After the motorhome car park, enter the playground through the gate.
(13) Go round the pond on the right. Behind the football pitches, turn right onto the footbridge over the Clouère and walk past the castle ruins. You will then reach the original junction on Route de Gençay.
(1) Turn left and follow the same route back to the car park on Rue de la Mairie (S/E).
