Description of the walk

Starting point: the village of Vouglans, 12 km from Moirans-en-Montagne.
Access to the starting point: in the village of Vouglans, from the tiny main square featuring a fountain, where you can park.

(S/E) Take the narrow path leading uphill at the far end of the square, between the houses.
The gate is about a hundred metres further up.

(1) At the signpost, take the rustic path to the right, walk up to where the path splits and take the left-hand path. Keep an eye out for the signposts.
Pass between two large boulders and a superb metal lizard, then continue on to the storybook.

(2) After the storybook, head left.
Cross the forest road and take the small path leading downwards. At the bottom of the path, turn right for 20 metres to see the superb view of the dam and Lake Vouglans.
Retrace your steps and continue along the path until you reach the forest road.
Following the path, continue along the forest road until you reach the hairpin bend.

(3) At the bend, carry on straight ahead along the path, pass the gardens and continue until you reach the first houses.

(1) Continue between the houses to reach the car park (S/E).

It’s certainly a short walk, but it’s quite a climb! We did it with children aged 4 and 7, and it went very well; looking for the lizards that marked the path helped keep them keen to carry on. The spot is peaceful, quite shaded and pleasant. A little detour to one of the viewpoints at the Vouglans Dam rounded off a great introduction to walking.

Once you’ve found the starting point, no more worries: it’s an easy route to follow! Enjoyable.
It’s a shame you can’t see the dam properly (the trees are in the way)!
