Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 231 m
  2. 1 : km 0.01 - alt. 233 m - From the carpark, go through the gate in the stone wall and follow the vague track towards Monsal Head.
  3. 2 : km 0.23 - alt. 227 m - At Monsal Head take the signed track down to Monsal Dale.
  4. 3 : km 0.37 - alt. 221 m - After crossing the viaduct, take the signed track on the left up to Monsal Head.
  5. 4 : km 1.21 - alt. 165 m - Cross the footbridge to the other side of the river and follow the obvious track down the dale to the road.
  6. 5 : km 2.66 - alt. 159 m - Cross the road to the carpark and head along an obvious track towards Deep Dale.
  7. 6 : km 2.93 - alt. 178 m - Follow the track as indicated by the fingerpost to Taddington. This takes you up Taddington Dale on an obvious track.
  8. 7 : km 3.86 - alt. 297 m - Go through the gate at the farm and follow the road.
  9. 8 : km 4.6 - alt. 332 m - Turn left and then right on to an obvious grass track.
  10. 9 : km 5.02 - alt. 355 m - Ensure you take the track to the right here (it is easy to just carry straight on).
  11. 10 : km 5.81 - alt. 350 m - Make your way up through the overgrown play area and visit High Well (an obvious stone structure).
  12. 11 : km 5.87 - alt. 366 m - From the well, follow the track down, past the shelter and back on to the footpath that contours along the hillside (past some houses), until reaching the road.
  13. 12 : km 6.2 - alt. 349 m - Follow the road for a short distance. Take the signed footpath on your left, between the houses to the field at the back.
  14. 13 : km 6.37 - alt. 348 m - Cross the field to the road. Use the stiles to cross the stone walls. Continue on the other side of the road on an obvious grassy track towards the top of Sough Top.
  15. 14 : km 7.01 - alt. 433 m - If you want to visit the trig (it's in a field), the best way is to use the gate to the field near the reservoir.
  16. 15 : km 7.03 - alt. 434 m - Start field hopping westwards towards Chelmorton.
  17. 16 : km 8.39 - alt. 416 m - Cross the country lane and continue along the obvious track towards Chelmorton.
  18. 17 : km 9.87 - alt. 369 m - After dropping down to the village, go through the gate for the footpath on your right. Once inside the field, do an out-and-back to the summit of Chelmorton Low, There is no track to the top, but it is easy enough to make your own way.
  19. 18 : km 9.89 - alt. 366 m - Head down the street of the village and take the farm lane on the right (signed as a footpath).
  20. 19 : km 10.77 - alt. 354 m - Cross the road and take the footpath directly opposite.
  21. 20 : km 10.84 - alt. 356 m - Signage isn't too good in this section of field hopping. Head for the right of the large house. Gates and stiles allow you to traverse the walls.
  22. 21 : km 11.32 - alt. 324 m - Signage still isn't very good. Basically head down to the lowest point of the valley ahead. Once you are near to the head of the dale, you'll see the stile to give you access.
  23. 22 : km 11.49 - alt. 320 m - It is an obvious track down from the bottom of the dale to the road.
  24. 23 : km 12.72 - alt. 237 m - Cross the road and turn right through the carpark following an obvious track.
  25. 24 : km 13.76 - alt. 237 m - Follow a signed path up to the Monsal Trail.
  26. 25 : km 13.93 - alt. 241 m - Follow the Monsal Trail back to Monsal Head.
  27. 26 : km 18.63 - alt. 214 m - Do an out-and-back to the footbridge at Miller's Dale to have a game of Poo sticks...otherwise continue along the Monsal Trail.
  28. 27 : km 21.68 - alt. 207 m - From Monsal Head, return to the carpark using the same track used on the outward journey this morning.
  29. S/E : km 21.96 - alt. 236 m
