- S/E : km 0 - alt. 222 m - Parking is in the farmyard, please park considerately ensuring not to block any access paths Leave the parking area, heading through the Mitchellslacks farm yard towards field gate, passing several out building. Enter the field, ensuring close the gate behind you and cross over to gate at far side. Pass through this gate (ensuring to leave as you found it i.e. if closed close it) This is the start point
- 2 : km 0.01 - alt. 223 m - Follow the path round the straight on - D1
- 3 : km 0.18 - alt. 234 m - The path splits here follow the upper branch of the path heading straight on, with burn and lower path on your left - D2
- 4 : km 1.69 - alt. 297 m - Keep following the track, you will pass through a couple of gates please ensure you close them as you go - D3
- 5 : km 2.31 - alt. 324 m - As you approach the houses, you cross over a large pipe with a burn passing through, with a fence just past it. Turn right as you pass over the pipe and fence following a Quad track up the hill - D4
- 6 : km 2.64 - alt. 413 m - Keep following the Quad track, initial part of climb up the hill has the fence on your right hand side - D5
- 7 : km 3.18 - alt. 499 m - The quad track goes faint for a few metres but look for it continuing up the hill, ignore the branch going off to the right - D6
- 8 : km 4.08 - alt. 645 m - As you approach the summit you will pass a smaller cairn, keep going past this up to the summit and main large cairn - D7
- 9 : km 4.54 - alt. 692 m - Circle round the main cairn and head back towards smaller cairn and Quad track back down the hill - D8
- 10 : km 5.04 - alt. 646 m - Retrace your steps back down the hill and onto track - D9

This hike starts from Sweetheart Abbey remains free car park and brings you to Waterloo Monument. If you are not claustrophobic or have a fear of heights, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view from the top of the tower! There is quite a steep climb to get to the monument.
⚠️The stairs into the tower are really narrow and steep. At the top there is NO SECURITY BARRIER so it is not recommended to bring children with you or if you have a fear of heights!
Waterloo Monument, New Abbey

This short but steep hike brings you to Waterloo Monument, Waterloo Hill. If you are not claustrophobic or have a fear of heights, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view from the top of the tower!
This is moderate as there is a steep climb with rocky and uneven steps.
⚠️The stairs into the tower are really narrow and steep. At the top there is NO SECURITY BARRIER so it is not recommended to bring children with you or if you have a fear of heights!
