Remains of Morton Castle and Morton Loch

This is a quick wander to visit Morton Castle. It is a nice family walk to visit the ruins and enjoy views of the countryside.

Description of the walk

Start: Layby opposite a wooden signpost and gate towards Morton Castle. Grid ref. NX 889 990

(S/E) From the layby, cross the gate and walk toward the castle and loch ahead of you.

(1) At the wooden signpost, take a detour to visit the remains and walk around it. Then come back to the wooden post and walk downhill following the path as it curves left around the damn at the bottom.

(2) From here, you can enjoy another perspective of the castle and loch. Then cross the kissing gate to enter the Native Woodland. the path goes uphill among oak trees. As you reach a gate at the top of the hill enjoy a view from above the castle. Then walk back the same way to the car park. (S/E)
