Description of the walk

Start: WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, Eastpark Farm, Caerlaverock DG1 4RS

(S/E) Exit the car park and take the footpath on the right just before the gate of the WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre. Continue on this small footpath until seeing a path on your right hand side.

(1) Take that path surrounded by fields and continue straight until reaching a wooden path and a birdwatch hide.

(2) At the birdwatch hide take right and continue straight on the wooden path that will become a field path. Continue straight on this path crossing the marshes until reaching Castle Wood and a concrete road.

(3) Follow the sign for Caerlaverock castle and continue on this road until reaching the old castle and then Caerlaverock moat with its small car park.

(4) Once at Caerlaverock castle retrace your steps back to the car park.

Note the wooden path around (2) is circular so you can take it in both ways

Not a very interesting walk, with very few people on the path through the rather tall vegetation. We ended up giving up and going to the castle by car.
On the other hand, the visit to the castle is interesting
Rq: we didn't manage to find our way back to the castle.
