(S/E) Leave Crookham Common car park by the path with the 'Greenham and Crookham Common' sign and a post with a butterfly on an arrow. Follow this path past another post, and at the next post turn left to follow the arrow. Continue straight along this path (this time ignoring the post with butterfly/arrow), and pass through a stand of silver birch trees to reach a T junction below a large oak.
(1) Take the right-hand path, which narrows and descends to Thornford Road. Cross the road and go down to the ford.
(2) Cross the River Enborne by the footbridge, then go through a gap on your left-hand side, in the opposite hedge to reach the bank of the river. The public footpath follows the meandering river bank.
Follow this path, and please respect the notices saying "Conservation headland: please keep off". After more than 1km, the path continues through a kissing gate, and shortly reaches a footbridge over the river.
(3) Cross over the footbridge and take the right-hand path, which initially goes to the left of the trees on the riverbank downstream. The path then goes diagonally (North East) across the field. It should be visible on the ground but, if not, aim for the electricity transformer on a pole.
After a footbridge over a field ditch, the path deviates slightly to the left, so now aim for the large oak tree to the left of the house. When you reach this, follow the narrow path alongside the house and then turn left uphill along the track.
At the top of the hill, continue along the public footpath into a narrow 'finger' of trees (this is marked by an arrow on a wooden post). The path then joins a driveway that emerges onto Crookham Common Road.
(4) Cross the road and enter the woods through a gap opposite (you may need to go 10m to the right if it is overgrown). Turn left along a path in the narrow strip of common land between the road and the caravan park, which emerges back onto the road a short distance from the caravan park's entrance.
The path continues from the other side of this entrance, beside a 'Keep Berkshire Tidy' sign. Keep straight ahead crossing several driveways to houses on the edge of the common until you have passed the covered reservoir on your left-hand side. Then before reaching Crookham Hill road, take the next track to the left to return to Crookham Common Road and the car park. (S/E)
