Description of the walk

Start: The Three Horseshoes (RG7 4TL) Grid ref. SU 559 646

(S/E) From The Three Horseshoes, walk back West towards Newbury and turn left in towards the church.

(1) Take the footpath that skirts the church.

(2) On reaching the open field, turn left and walk down the hill for about 400 yds until the track reaches the road.

(3) Immediately take another track to the right and follow this close to the River Enborne (taking the footpath straight ahead over a small footbridge when the track bends to the right) for about 1000 yds.

(4) When it reaches a rather posh footbridge with a stile at the entrance, eschew it and follow the river bank to the right on the near side, eventually reaching a gravel lane by a second bridge.

(5) Ignore the bridge and follow this lane (Hyde End Lane) for some 1200 yds to the Newbury-Brimpton road.

(6) Take the footpath across the field opposite the road triangle.

(7) On reaching another lane (Manor Lane), turn right and follow the track North then North-East for about 1500 yds to a main road.

(8) Go right for 400 yds along the road.

(9) Then take a track on the left for 400 yds.

(10) At the junction, turn right on a footpath which shortly reaches a road (Wasing Road). Take another footpath on the left that leads past houses to reach Brimpton Lane where you turn right (North) to walk back to the pub. (S/E)

Beautiful walk alongside the River Enborne, and then back down a quiet path with snowdrops. Very much enjoyed it.
There was just one turn where I though the instructions could be clearer - in step 3 I would replace "it turns into a footpath" with "taking the footpath straight ahead over a small footbridge when the track bends to the right".
The walk was a little muddy in a couple of places, but passable with walking boots - I didn't need my wellies.
There is a small section (8) along the main road to be aware of as the road has no pavement and the cars come quite fast.
