England Coast Path - Ravenscar to Hayburn Wyke
This section starts in the failed Victorian resort of Ravenscar and ends at Hayburn Wyke waterfall. Initially the route follows open cliff tops with views across the North Sea before descending into woodland at the end of the walk.
Description
Start : National Trust Visitor Centre, Ravenscar (TO13 0NE) Grid ref. NZ 980 016
(S) From the National Trust Visitor Centre walk to the cross roads and turn right into Station Road. After approximatey 100m cross the road and follow the Cleveland Way along the broad lane until you reach the fence and England Coast Path marker, turn right and follow the fenceline along the top of the cliffs. Alternatively, continue up Station Road to Ravenscar Tea Rooms/Station Platform. From here turn left and walk down Cliff Road to the tearoom sign.
(1) From the tearoom sign, continue to walk southeast along the cliff tops.
(2) Continue until you reach the Ravenscar Radar Station, you can explore this if you wish, after this return to the path ignoring any small paths to your right. Go through the gate. The path continues in a southerly direction for some time.
(3) You will descend into woodland, still on a southerly direction. At the bottom, go down the steps to the footbridge.
(4) Cross the footbridge over Hayburn Beck, take a detour down to the beach to check out Hayburn Waterfall. Return to the bridge and take the steps up through the woodland.
(5) As you climb the steps, take the path to your left which is clearly marked Cleveland Way on a post and continue up the steps. The path twists and turns and crosses another footbridge.
(6) When you reach the signposts for the Cleveland Way, leave the England Coast Path here if you are ending this section by continuing straight ahead through the gate into the field towards the campsite and then turn right along the track to Hayburn Wyke pub (E).

Useful Information
Transport: There is parking in Ravenscar and at Hayburn Wyke Pub. There are no buses between the 2 points except 2 buses a day. The options include a taxi from Hayburn Wyke back to Ravenscar or to pick up the Cinder Track from Hayburn Wyke Pub which ends at Ravenscar Station Platform to make a circular walk.
Facilities: There are no facilities along the route. There are public toilets at Ravenscar and the Ravenscar Tea Rooms. The Hayburn Wyke Pub serves food and has accommodation at the end of the walk.
Accessibility: The path is unmade and can be steep in places with steps around the waterfall. This section is not accessible to all.

Check out the layout of Ravenscar, once planned as an elegant holiday resort but was never finished. The railway platform marks the end of the Cinder Track from Scarborough.
