Prémeaux-Prissey/Nuits-Saint-Georges circ - Route des Grands Crus

This stage 6 on the Route de Grands Crus series is a short return walk through the vineyards from Prémeaux-Prissey to Nuits-St-Georges, a small town and host to one of Burgundy's most famous wines.
This walk marks the transition from the mostly white wines of Côte de Beaune and into the mostly red wines of Côte de Nuits. The walk is dog friendly, mostly easy going with a little climb in the middle.

Cette randonnée fait partie d'un circuit en itinérance de plusieurs jours : Route des Grands Crus (RDGC)

Description de la randonnée

Start: Parking is available at the Prémeaux-Prissey church just off the D974 and there is a bus service, though infrequent.

(S/E) Begin at the church in Prémeaux-Prissey next to the Information Board and monkey trees and walk up to the main road (D974), cross over and turn left. Walk briefly down the D974 for 100 m and fork right onto Chemin des Argillières on the cycle route Voie des Vignes and start on the RDGC proper to pick up Yellow Red (YR) signs (this is the turn where you may have finished the Walk 5).

Walk North and fork right to reach and go through a picnic place and small car park and follow a way marker for the yellow RDGC arrow sign and YR marks and follow these downhill.

(1) Continue North to a 4-way junction.

(2) At this junction note the YR turn sign and so leave the road by turning turn left on a stony path towards the woods and proceed to a sharp right turn as you reach the woods. Continue along the side of the hill until two sharp hairpin bends take you North again. You will come to a junction at the D8 road.

At the road side is a small car park and benches on the D8 road RDGC with a viewpoint with panorama over the Nuit-St-Georges area and beyond. There is also a yellow way marker sign pointing across the road and a YR sign across on the forest board 'Parcours de Santé'.

(3) After this junction and crossing the road take the stony path proceeding upwards and after about 300m fork right to the Statue Cabet. Go round the statue and through a copse, emerging from which turn left and proceed till you reach the path down to Nuits-St-Georges. Follow this all the way down and as you eventually come down from the fields and vineyards into the outskirts you reach a road again at Rue de l'Ermitage then the intersection of Chemins des Plateaux, Rue de l'Ermitage, Rue Edme Bergeret and Rue de Charmois with a cross at the road side.

(4) Here, northern most part of this walk, there are many choices: either visit Nuits-St-Georges; or continue left and Northwards on the RDGC following the YR sign along Rue de Charmois.

Here we offer to turn directly right down Chemin des Plateaux to begin the quick, flatter return journey of this walk, as follows, heading for a junction with Rue de Chaux.

(5) Turn right onto Rue de Chaux and then immediately left and into the vineyards.

(6) Reach Rue des Fleurières, proceed onwards into Rue des Brulées forking right and joining a small track off the road leading to the 4-ways junction you encountered on your way up.

(2) From here, retrace your steps back to Prémeaux-Prissey. (S/E)

A proximité

In Nuits-St-Georges there is a good museum, lots of sit-out cafes in the main square next to the village tower, many restaurants centred on a really nice pedestrian street called Grande Rue such as the funky music bar Red Cafe and nearby Grills and Pizza and la Cabotte . Wine tasting for instance is at Cave Moillard where we paid a small tasting fee and got a short tour of the wine shop before purchasing one of the expensive named wines and some cheaper generic Bourgognes. Note that Haute Cotes-de-Nuits (as opposed to Nuits-St-Georges itself ) is also one of the cheaper ones but still with the name. Quite near this Cave is a really good vet if dog walkers need attention or the worm treatment and certificate for return to the UK
