Description of the walk

Start: Langdon Cliffs & Foxhill Down National Trust and Channel Geopark Transmanche Grid ref. TR 336 422

(S/E) With your back to the Visitor Information entrance, turn right and walk to the end of the building and reach some steps. Cross the road to go through a wooden gate hidden into the hedge. Walk down some steps to reach a T-junction where you turn right then left down steps to reach a viewpoint of the harbour. Walk down to the edge of the cliff.

(1) Turn left and keep walking straight along the clifftop for 190m or so before bearing left straight up the bank as the official path is overgrown. Reach a main path where you turn right. Before crossing the gate, enjoy views of the castle behind you, then carry straight on.

(2) Reach a path junction with a gate left and viewpoint right. Keep straight along the clifftop. Then keep your left hand (the right path is a dead end anyway). After 370 m or so, reach a gate and path junction at "Langdon Cliff" where you keep straight North.

(3) As you go, find a footpath left then at the top go right. Keep left along the way, leaving the cliff and seaside behind (This is a less busy route). At the bottom of steps, go through a gate on the left and reach another gate and junction at Wanstone where you turn right along a paved footpath.

At the next gate on your right, up the slope, turn right through it (Harbour Field). Keep straight along the top (ignoring paths going downhill on your right) and go through another gate to reach the official and well-maintained clifftop path. Cross the gate, turn right downhill. Just before the next gate, turn left.

(4) Then before a second gate, turn left again down steps towards Lagdon Stairs and bay. Be careful it is really steep. Follow the path which turns downhill along the cliff. Enter Langdon Bay Tunnel and at the end, reach a steep ladder and bay !!! Here be careful as it is slippery and you need to check out the tide! After enjoying this unusual place, walk up again.

(4) This time, walk left through the wooden gate and straight ahead. Keep straight to reach back to the main path again where you turn left towards the harbour.

(5) At the path junction keep straight uphill following the England Coast Path waymarker up the stairs. As the path flattens reach a wooden gate at "Langdon Cliff" where you turn right uphill (this time do not go through the gate). Walk through another gate at the top. As you walk downhill enjoy the view of the harbour and castle ahead of you. Cross the last wooden gate to reach back the car park and White Cliff car park and visitor centre.(S/E)
