Start: Great Wood National Trust car park, Borrowdale Rd, Keswick CA12 5UP, Fees apply to non-members of the National Trust
(S/E) Exit the car park using the little path at its end (South). Keep straight until reaching an intersection of paths.
(1) Keep straight on this path following the direction of Ashness Bridge. Arriving at the level of the Cat Gill river (do not cross it), keep on the main path going up - with the river on your right hand side. Keep going up until reaching Lady's rake and the upper plateau.
(2) Turn left, passing the stile to find the path going to Walla Crag summit. After admiring the view, leave the summit using the path opposite to the one used previously. Pass the stile, then turn left to walk on the large path that you left at (2). Keep straight across the moor to go down. Keep going until you reach the end of the path and the footbridge to cross the river Brockle Beck. Cross the river.
(3) Turn left on the road and keep walking on this small road for around 200m before seeing a footpath on your left.
(4) Turn left to leave the road and walk towards Great Wood. Keep straight until the next intersection.
(5) Turn left again to stop following the river. Keep straight until the next intersection of paths.
(6) Turn right to stay on the main path and keep going down through the forest. Keep walking on this large path. Just before reaching a road, turn left to stay on this footpath and reach the car park (S/E).
