Climb up to the village of Saint-Michel-l'Observatoire on the D5 and park in the car park opposite the town hall (Place du Serre), the starting point for your walk.
(S/E) Head north along Rue de la Saunerie. At the fountain, take Grande Rue for a few dozen metres until you see Chemin des Étoiles (Lou Camin Dis Estello) on your right.
Climb up and discover the evolution of astronomy from the third millennium BC to the present day. At the top of this path, you will find a magnificent panorama of the region and an orientation table.
(1) Continue along the path towards the Haute de Provence observatory and enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and the CNRS observatory.
(2) At the next crossroads, turn left and follow the yellow signs. At the crossroads with the D5 road, take the path immediately on the right and follow the yellow signs towards the Haute de Provence observatory. At the fork, take the path on the right and continue to follow the yellow signs until you reach another crossroads.
(3) Take the path on the right and continue to follow the yellow signs towards the CNRS observatory. Enjoy the magnificent surrounding forest of holm oaks.
(4) Continue along the path (at the edge of the Haute Provence Observatory property) and begin your descent into a farmyard.
(5) Be careful, continue your hike by following the yellow markings on a small road (D305) that will take you back to the village. You will arrive at the wash house crossroads.
(6) Turn left and start climbing back up to the village and the car park (S/E).
