Urbex at the old Santa Maria da Feira stadium

During this walk, you’ll pass through landscapes typical of this region (pine and eucalyptus forests, etc.), and the highlight will be the old Santa Maria da Feira stadium, now disused but still in good condition. Not to mention the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside from the higher ground.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park on the newly resurfaced square in the hamlet of Airas, separated from the square by a stone arch.

(S/E) From the car park indicated, cross the square heading south, then cross the road (Rua dos Dezassete) to join the old Roman road (which begins with a paved section) and continue along Rua da Estrada Romana. You’ll reach the main road (Rua da Malaposta), which you follow slightly to the right before crossing it to turn left onto the descending path (Estrada do Nascente).

(1) Turn left onto the uphill path.

(2) Turn left again onto the path leading uphill until you reach the entrance to the stadium. After visiting the stadium, exit via the south entrance and turn right onto the path leading downhill, which you’ll follow for about a hundred metres.

(3) Turn left and follow the path.

(4) At the junction, carry on straight ahead towards the south-west, passing under the power line.

(5) Shortly afterwards, take the path on the right, then at the next junction, take the path on the left.

(6) Take the path on the right.

(7) Turn sharply right and carry on straight ahead.

(8) Turn onto the path on the left, then at the next junction, take the path going uphill on the right.

(9) Cross the track and carry on straight ahead until you reach the road (EM233). Cross it and continue along the track opposite.

(10) Go round the waterworks on the right along a downhill path, then continue climbing due north until you reach the main road (Rua Central).

(11) Turn right, then when you reach a small square on the left with a chapel (Capela da Senhora de Hora), leave the main road, walk past the chapel and turn left onto Travessa da Presa.

(12) When the tarmac section of Travessa da Presa bends sharply to the right, leave it and take the path on the left, which bears the same name. Follow this path until you reach the Roman road (Rua da Estrada Romana).

(13) Turn left onto the cobbled road and, once at the end of it, head right up the sloping street. Once you reach the top, turn right again, then carry on straight ahead until you return to the car park where you started (S/E).
