Park in the car park at the entrance to Le Bessat. To get there:
- coming from Rochetaillé, it is immediately after passing the roundabout.
- from Croix de Chaubouret, drive through the village of Le Bessat to reach the roundabout.
Note: The hike can also start from the Souvignet bridge. There is a shaded car park there that is easily accessible by car. Simply follow the trail for this hike, which passes near the car park
(S/E) Head towards Croix de Chaubouret and, in the village, turn right onto the Route de la Peatland du Blanc, which followsGR® trails 7 and 42. The road then becomes a path that enters the woods. FollowGR®7-42through the woods on the cross-country ski trails. You will arrive at Croix des Fosses.
(1) Continue on theGR® trails until you reach a crossroads.
(2) Take thesecond path on the right, following theGR®7(leaving theGR®42on your left). Pass the Creux du Loup to reach Praveilles, a crossroads of several trails.
(3) Continue on theGR®7. Further on, you will reach a four-way crossroads.
(4) Leave theGR® here and take the path on the right heading north-west. Be careful, as the path is not very well marked at the start and it is easy to miss. Ignore all the paths on the left or right until you reach the crossroads with the dirt track called Route du Comte Amelot.
(5) Take this road to the right heading east and follow it around a bend to reach a stream.
(6) Cross and turn left to reach the Giant Fir Tree, planted during the reign of Louis XVI.
(7) Head towards the Pont de Souvignet bridge, but be careful not to go all the way to the bridge (a road bridge on the road from Tarentaise, which is not part of the hike), but cross the small bridge without railings that spans the Furan upstream.
(8) Cross it, then take the path that climbs up to the left, which runs alongside the river for a few dozen metres, and not the one that starts opposite the bridge. The path to follow then leads to the hamlet of Le Bouchet.
(9) Continue on to reach Le Châtelard. At the hamlet, take the tarmac road on the left, then after a few metres take the dirt track on the right towards Tarentaise.
(10) In the village of Tarentaise, climb up to the right towards the cemetery. You will then reach the Croix de Civet.
(11) Cross the road and take the path opposite, which gradually moves away from the road to join theGR®42.
(12) Take it on the right and follow it to the Bessat car park (S/E).
