Park in the cemetery car park at the entrance to Chuyer.
(S/E) Walk up the road towards the village and cross it completely.
(1) On leaving the village, take the small road leading down to the left. Turn sharply left onto the unpaved track leading down towards the stream. Then head back up, following the main track to the hamlet of Grand Marat, the highest point of the walk. When you reach a tarmac road, turn left onto it.
Magnificent views of the Alps and Mont Pilat.
Pass a cross on the right. There are eight picnic tables on the left. You’ll reach a crossroads.
(2) Cross carefully and continue straight on towards the hamlet of Écotay. At the next three-way junction, turn right onto the street that climbs slightly and crosses the hamlet. After the houses on the left, go down the street and continue along a dirt track. After the stream, climb back up to a road which you take to the left for about fifty metres until you reach a fork in the path.
(3) Then take the small path straight ahead on the left, ignoring the junction, until the path becomes tarmac. At the junction, turn right. Continue downhill until you see a sign on the left indicating: Chemin du Tarnaud.
(4) Follow this path, which crosses a stream (view of the summit of Mont Pilat). Walk uphill to a T-junction. Turn right onto the almost flat path until you reach a junction.
(5) Turn right onto a signposted path: Parc du Pilat. Walk downhill through a small wood until you reach a sharp left-hand bend. Continue on level ground until you reach the hamlet of Métrieux and rejoin the tarmac road.
At the junction, carefully turn left onto the D90 for about 100 metres. After a slight bend, turn onto the dirt track on the right. A sign explains the Battle of Vire-Culs (very funny). Head down towards the stream then climb back up to the D30 road.
(6) Follow this road to the left for about 150 m; take care as the verge is uneven.
After a low wall, turn onto the path on the right and climb until you cross the D19. Cross the road, taking care as there is heavy traffic. Continue straight on along the tarmac road which climbs towards the hamlet of Le Molard.
When you reach the hamlet, go round it on the left. Behind the houses, you will find a fire hydrant. Continue along the dirt track which climbs towards a White Cross clearly visible from below.
(7) At the cross, take the tarmac road on the left. At the next junction, keep heading towards Chuyer, whose church is clearly visible. The road takes you back to the cemetery car park (S/E).
