Tournicoti twirled around the hamlet of Masgot

Masgot is a hamlet adorned with original sculptures created in the 19th century by a single man, the stonemason François Michaud, but it is also a hamlet surrounded by footpaths and woodland trails that can be explored even in hot weather. A lovely little walk that also takes you through the hamlet of Montgermain, where you can admire its venerable 400-year-old lime tree. The route is almost entirely off-road, so you can let your dog run free.

Description of the walk

Parking is compulsory about a hundred metres before Masgot.

Yellow-marked route, but deviates from it at times.

(S/E) Ignore the first yellow marker on the left to enter the village; this will give you an idea of the route you should take on your return. Head back down the same path and this time take the correct turn, to the right, crossing a large courtyard. Continue along the narrow path, ignore the path on the right and carry straight on.

(1) Turn left and go straight on until you reach a T-junction.

(2) Turn right for about 150 m, then turn right again.

(3) Turn right again. At the three-way junction, take the right-hand path. Further on, look out for the stone steps in the low wall on the right.

(4) Shortly afterwards, at the junction, turn left.

(5) At the T-junction, take the path on the right which leads back to Masgot.

(6) Turn left onto a small tarmac road which becomes a wide track. Follow this track until it ends at a small road (elevation 544). Turn left and follow this small road which leads to the hamlet of Montgermain.

(7) If you wish to see the lime tree, ignore the yellow markings and turn right. In the hamlet, take the first path on the right, following the sign for “tilleul”. Then turn back and rejoin the road on the left.

(7) Leave the village. 25 metres from the last barn, take the path on the left and follow it straight on, ignoring the paths to the right and left.

(8) At this point, leave the yellow markings and continue straight ahead.

(3) Go straight on, turning left at the next junction.

(2) Continue straight ahead and you will come out at the junction with the car park road. Turn left then right to reach it (S/E).

We went for a walk on 16 July.
We set off around 9 am in the cool morning air; there were two cars in the car park, and when we returned at 11.30 am, the car park was practically full; everyone was seeking shade.
The route is very well shaded and runs almost entirely through woodland. It’s very well maintained too – well done.
Anyone can do it.

A lovely walk, enjoyed during those beautiful early autumn days of 2023. I picked up plenty of chestnuts along the way!

A pleasant and easy walk that completes the route dedicated to the sculptor François Michaud in the village of Masgot.
