Description of the walk

Departure from the Col de Gleize car park.

(S/E) From the car park, take the path to the left of the small house, which is signposted towards Pic de Gleize. Follow the yellow markings and, at the first fork, continue straight ahead following the yellow markings. The path climbs through the pine trees to reach the mountain pastures on a flat area.

(1) At the Forest d'Amoutty sign, turn right towards Laye station and Les pins de l'Aiguille. This path crosses a cattle trough and descends gently into the forest. It crosses the ski slopes twice, then arrives at the Les Pins de l'Aiguille sign.

(2) Continue straight ahead towards Laye Station and Galembert. Just before the Galembert sign, a small spring feeds a pretty little fountain.

(3) At the Galembert crossroads, take the path that climbs to the left towards Coste Belle. You will see dark green markings at the start, but these quickly give way to yellow markings. The path climbs below the Pic de l'Aiguille along the mountainside to reach the ridge. You need to be careful in some places.

(4) Once on the ridge, ignore the markings that lead to the right and head left along the ridges. From here, there are no more markings or paths, so you will have to walk by sight!
Overall, you need to reach the path that is at the same level as the ridge you are on, in the rocky ridge between Pic de l'Aiguille and Pic de Gleize (on the left).
Walk along the ridges for a while, then pass above the last fir trees and continue along the mountainside until you come to an impassable gully above a small stream.

(5) At this point, you need to descend vertically down this small ridge for about a hundred metres to reach the bottom of the stream. Cross it and continue left along the mountainside, always heading for the rocky ridge. In some places, you may find goat or chamois tracks, which will help you on your way. When you come to a "sub-pass" in the mountain pasture, climb back up to find the path above.
This path is halfway between Pic de l'Aiguille and Pic de Gleize.

(6) Once you reach the path, turn left and climb straight up towards the rocky ridge. The path will pass through the ridge via a tricky passage, then climb up towards the unnamed pass.

(7) Once you reach the ridges, a small wooden post marks the crossroads (with no further indications). Turn left onto the path to approach Pic de l'Aiguille and enjoy views of the Champsaur valley.

(8) When the path becomes too dangerous, retrace your steps to find the junction with the wooden post you passed earlier.

(7) From there, continue straight ahead to climb towards Pic de Gleize (yellow markings).

(9) Once at the peak, continue straight ahead on the yellow marked trail (no. 16). Be careful, as a sign warns of the danger of the descent. You must be vigilant and watch your step, but there is no major precipice.
Descend back down to the mountain pastures to find a crossroads.

(10) Take the path on the right that descends, marked in yellow (No. 16).
After a steep descent, the trail arrives at the Forest d'Amoutty junction.

(1) Continue straight downhill towards Col de Gleize to return to the car park (S/E).

This is one of my favorite hikes around Gap and Laye station. The 360° view is just incredible !!!
For those who are quite scared of hight, I would not recommend to hike along the ridge to get to the end of the Pic de l'Aiguille.
It is an amazing spot for sunset... If you are quite, you can see some Chamoix...

Delicate and even dangerous hike between points 4 and 8. There is no trail or even tracks, let alone cairns. You have to cross a few ravines with very steep slopes. The climb is done by sight, keeping your eyes on the path that starts under the rocky ridge. Once you find this path, it's still not easy, as it is very exposed and steep. For this entire hike, sturdy shoes are essential, as is excellent mountain experience. In any case, you need good weather, especially no fog!

A beautiful hike that started in fog, which cleared completely once I reached the summit.
Quite a few people at the peak and on the descent.
No issues to report regarding the directions or the GPX track.

Fabulous landscapes. An easy hike (a bit of a climb at the start) but the mountain pastures are sublime. A peaceful hike with breathtaking scenery. We spotted deer running along the rock faces, and there was still a little snow in May.
The signpost is still on the ground but the route is very easy to follow, impossible to get lost.

Beautiful hike, but the section between points 4 and 7 is not easy, a bit difficult and not very interesting (unless you want to see chamois!).
Otherwise, it's a magnificent hike to do at the end of June to enjoy the flowers (a real treat).

Hello woofi,

Thank you for your comment, and I'm glad you enjoyed the route.

I just checked, and there is indeed a discrepancy in the WPTs.
This route is a bit old, and when it was created, the starting WPT (S/E) did not yet exist; it was the WPT (1) that signalled the start.
As a result, some routes have this discrepancy between the map and the description.

I will rectify all that, thank you for pointing it out to me.

Have a nice day.

Hike completed yesterday using the Visorando mobile app. There were discrepancies between the numbers indicated on the map and the description (hence the average rating for route reliability). Nevertheless, it would appear that there is no issue with the map and description of the site... strange. Fortunately, the explanations are fairly clear!

In any case, we were able to complete the entire hike, despite the patches of snow scattered along the route, which made walking along the mountainside all the more dangerous (and in this case, there were no visible chamois trails to help us).

Another slight downside was the length of the route... It's true that we took our time to eat and take a few photos (maybe 30 minutes in total), but you need to allow a good hour extra (including breaks) to complete this hike (around 5 hours 50 minutes/6 hours).

Otherwise, it's a very beautiful hike that we really enjoyed!

Magnificent route. A tricky passage between markers 5 and 7. I had already been there a few years ago. I managed to find the passage, but you have to be very observant and not hesitate to climb down a little. Some chamois gave us a demonstration of their agility!

A very beautiful hike, well described with splendid scenery.
Unfortunately, the north face crossing forced us to turn back, as we felt that crossing the ravine was far too dangerous. We set out, but the terrain was very steep, unstable and too exposed for my liking to continue.
We followed the route downloaded onto the GPS perfectly. It's a shame, as the tour looked splendid.
Maybe another time.
