Start: The route starts in the Ticknock Parking Area. It can be busy on Summer weekends.
(S/E) Follow the tarred road uphill for about a kilometre to Three Rock Mountain.
There are great views of Dublin and the bay from the top of the Three Rock Mountain. Young and not so young will enjoy scrambling up one or more of the granite rocks that give the mountain its name.
(1) Retrace your steps for about 200 metres, then continue south-southwest on a broad untarred road with forest on one side and communications towers on the other. Follow the path uphill for a further kilometre until you reach Two Rock Mountain; the latter half of the path is in open heathland.
There is a large heap of stones (cairn) at the top of Two Rock Mountain, with lovely views of the Wicklow Mountains to the south.
(2) Turn right (west-southwest) along the Dublin Mountains Way, following it for about half a kilometre before turning right (north-northwest) on the Wicklow Way.
(3) At the viewing platform, turn right (east-southeast) onto a broad forest road. After half a kilometre, turn left onto a marked path that continues down the mountain and back to the Ticknock parking lot.(S/E)
