Start: The Turners Arms, Mortimer (RG7 3TW) Grid ref. SU 645 644
(S/E) From the pub, go West back towards Newbury, cross the road and take the footpath on the left. This drops steeply downhill and meets a track where you turn right.
(1) Follow up past farm buildings, over a crossing track, and down to meet a metalled road.
(2) Turn left and shortly left again on a track labeled 'Weak Bridge'. Go slightly downhill then up taking a left then a right at the top to emerge on the road by the Calleva car park.
(3) Take the footpath that joins the anticlockwise circuit of Calleva, ignoring one ('not suitable for pushchairs') that enters Calleva.
(4) Follow the perimeter path outside the walls, passing the church on the left. Go forward on the lane, perhaps visiting the Amphitheatre.
(5) In about 200yds after this, as it narrows and goes downhill, take some steps up to a footpath on the left. This leads down a field, through a gate, over a plank bridge, up a cultivated field, over a stile and across the grass into a wood, where the path can be muddy.
(6) At a plank bridge at the end of the wood, bear left across the grass to the end of a lane, which follow uphill past a stud farm.
(7) About 150yds after joining a metalled lane, take a footpath on the left that leads back to the main road then left to the pub.(S/E)
