The Ibex Chaddleworth circular, Chaddleworth

Start : The Ibex Chaddleworth, Chaddleworth (RG20 7ER) Grid ref. SU 416 773

(S/E) From the pub, go back towards Newbury for 300yds.

(1) Turn left into the drive (footpath marked). Follow the marked path past Oak Ash Farm.

(2) At the end of the lane, cross the metalled road where it kinks, and keep straight on a footpath in the fields. In 1000yds this reaches another lane at Brightwalton Holt.

(3) Turn right and follow the track for another 1000yds to Leckhampstead.

(4) Go straight on the road, passing the curious war memorial and the Stag.

(5) Then take the first metalled lane to the right.

(6) Where this turns sharply to the right, keep straight on, then half right on a footpath.

(7) Bear left again in 500yds.

(8) On reaching a metalled lane, turn right then left at the first track in 150yds. Follow this for 1000yds until it reaches Chaddleworth, where you turn right for the pub.(S/E)

Drive to start : About ten miles from Newbury via the B4494 Wantage road. Two and a half miles after passing under the M4 turn left for Leckhampstead, and then go a further 3 miles straight on to Chaddleworth to find the pub.

Refreshments : After being closed for several years, the Ibex reopened in late 2016 as a pub with rooms. The bar has been greatly enlarged, and a range of draught beers, snacks and meals are available.
