Start: The Hatchet, Lower Chute (SP11 9DX) Grid ref. SU 312 531

(S/E) Turn right out of the pub and follow the lane for 500yds.

(1) Turn left then fork right in 150yds.

(2) In a further 250yds take a footpath on the left that crosses fields and comes out on a lane just to the right of the church.

(3) Take the lane in front and leave it when it bends left for a footpath on the right. This crosses a field, then turns to the right (North) and descends into a valley, entering Limmer Copse (bluebells in season) at a stile. Practical information

Start: The Hatchet, Lower Chute (SP11 9DX) Grid ref. SU 312 531

Driving to start: About eighteen miles from Newbury. Take the A343 Andover Road to Hurstbourne Tarrant, turn right for four miles through Vernham Dean and bear left up the hill to Conholt. Here go left again, right after a mile (straight past Clanville) then right again after another mile (straight past The Chutes) to arrive in Lower Chute.

Refreshments: The Hatchet, a decent pub cum restaurant in the heart of the country. It serves decent bar meals while the restaurant is also available. At least three proper draught beers on tap.
You can also start and finish this walk from the Cross Keys, now highly recommended, at Upper Chute about 300m West of the church.
