Description of the walk

Start: The Dundas Arms, Kintbury (RG17 9UT) Grid ref. SU 387 671

(S/E) From The Dundas, take the canal towpath towards Hungerford for 700yds.

(1) Cross the canal by the second bridge.

(2) On joining the road, go left then right at the top of the hill for Inglewood.

(3) In 400yds, turn left on the footpath before Kintbury Farm, and follow this through several wooden and metal gates till you reach the metalled lane from Kintbury to St Cassians.

(4) Go right for a few yards, then sharp left into the field, and keep left to a metal gate into a drive near some farm buildings.

(5) Turn right along the grassy drive, and go forward past metal gates (Footpath to Titcombe Manor) then follow the track to it's end at another metal gate.

(6) Bear left on the footpath uphill then down to cross a stream and up again to join a farm lane at a corner.

(7) Go left on this.

(8) Turn left in 200yds to go downhill, ignoring two footpaths signs to the right, towards Titcomb Manor.

(9) In front of this, take a footpath through a squeeze stile to the right. This drops through fields, crosses a stream, and eventually passes between larchlap garden fences before meeting the High Street in Kintbury near The Blue Ball (another possible starting point, though opening hours are limited).

(10) Go right then left for the church, past which is a footpath that goes through a turnstile towards the pub. (S/E)

Practical information

Start: The Dundas Arms, Kintbury (RG17 9UT) Grid ref. SU 387 671

Driving to start : About five miles from Newbury near the station level crossing and canal bridge.

Rrefreshments : No longer under the ownership of Mr Dalziel Piper, the Dundas is now more of a pub than a restaurant, though the pub meals are quite good, and sandwiches are available at lunchtimes. A good selection of draught beers is available.
